Job Duration: March 29th – November 1st
Assists with Stormwater tasks such as storm drain labeling, IOWATER tests, field tests, data entry and supply orders. Assists with volunteer events preparing materials, tools, etc. for events and assists in the management of volunteers. Works along and in creeks and water ways, and other sensitive areas; including Willow, Snyder and Ralston Creeks and the Iowa River, removing invasive and nuisance species. Provides environmental education to students from elementary school through college at clean-up events, summer programs, field days, etc. Distributes information regarding environmental clean-up events. Creates posters and flyers, and maintains social media sites (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Flickr) with photos and event information. Oversees volunteers at events and staffs volunteer fair booth. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum education, experience and certification
Post-high school training in or enrollment in an environmental sciences program preferred. Must have basic computer skills, and have social media knowledge and skills. Requires manual dexterity and the ability to perform heavy manual labor, which may require heavy lifting and using tools such as but not limited to loppers, handsaws, ropes, rakes; chainsaw experience is preferred. Requires the ability to continuously work under a variety of environmental conditions. Requires the ability to work independently and follow through on assigned tasks. Strong organizational and communication skills required. Must be available evenings and weekends for outreach/education activities. Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record required. Must be 18 years of age per Iowa Code 92.8.
