The NICU Manager/Clinical Practice Lead is responsible and accountable for nursing quality, standards of practice, fiscal stewardship and service for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This position is responsible for promoting a patient and family centered model of care. The NICU Manager/Clinical Practice Lead is a role model, mentor, educator, coach, innovator and advocate for the professional nurse to assure the nursing practice is effective in achieving clinical outcome. Responsible for promoting teamwork within the unit and positive interactions with other departments as well as problem solving a wide variety of problems including patient complaints and/or satisfaction. The position will also be responsible for instituting the shared governance model for Nemours Nursing and role modeling the Nemours Standards of Behavior and Values.
Promotes a patient and family-centered care model promoting the nurse patient partnership and the professional role of the nurse.
Manages a healthy work and learning environment within the department by utilizing
Effective decision making
Manages and maintains associate staffing and performance
Insures adequate training of new staff and ongoing training of existing staff.
Plans, implements and evaluates associate schedules in accordance with patient need, and provides justification for changes in staffing levels.
Assures staffing schedule is posted in a timely manner and supports core staffing needs
Hires, counsels and provides corrective actions to unit staff as necessary.
Provides feedback and coaching to staff on an ongoing basis utilizing the Nemours standards of behavior.
Performs a timely annual performance review for all unit staff in accordance with Human Resources policy
Assesses the appropriateness of available tools and resources to staff on an ongoing basis.
Recognize and acknowledge positive behavior, provide mentorship to contribute to associates professional development that enhance the associate and the department.
Monitors monthly expenses and assures compliance with the budget
Has an understanding of what is required to remain financially sound.
Demonstrates expertise in realigning staff and other resources to respond to financial constraints without compromising overall clinical effectiveness or safety of the care provided.
Seeks knowledge if cost and reimbursement practices
Seeks continuous improvement on all charge capturing in a timely fashion.
Uses patient needs to make financial decisions.
Evaluates cost effectiveness of new technologies.
Be an organizational role model in financial management, empower department associates to develop financial thinking skills.
Prepares the annual budget justifying necessary capital and operational expenses.
Ensures effective and efficient utilization of resources in daily management decisions.
Assures nursing compliance with accrediting and regulatory readiness agencies.
Leads quality improvement projects designed to improve nursing clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction
Participates in nursing research activities and supports evidence based pediatric nursing in collaboration with nursing education department and nursing associates.
Directs nursing planning and policy development through constructive collaboration in key committees.
Must have the ability to work collaboratively with others.

Masters in Nursing or other approved field required (in lieu of MSN must hold BSN in addition to Masters in approved field)
Five years of nursing experience required; previous healthcare management experience preferred.
Currently licensed by the State of Florida or legally eligible.
American Heart Association BLS required upon hire.
Current PALS certification required upon hire.
