The School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering (CBEE) at Oregon State University (OSU) invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed term Head Undergraduate Advisor. Reappointment is at the discretion of the School Head. The School of CBEE emphasizes a culture of collegiality and excellence in both research and education. CBEE has 30 teaching faculty and enrolls over 1100 undergraduate and graduate students.
The School is seeking a highly qualified Head Undergraduate Advisor to provide supervision and leadership in the area of undergraduate academic advising with advising support including but not limited to transfer student orientation, academic success strategies, career planning, course programming, and retention efforts. The person in this position will work with various student populations such as resident, non-resident, international, and INTO progression. The Head Advisor is a source of information for prospective students through participation in various university and college sponsored orientations and events.
Reporting to the School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering's Director of Operations, this position will have primary responsibility for academic advising for students in academic difficulty and post-baccalaureate students in all three disciplines in the School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering. As this position supports the primary mission of the university, CBEE, and academic services, it may require occasional evening and weekend work.
Typically requires Bachelors Degree in field relevant to work assigned. Experience advising students on degree completion requirement and academic standards.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Competency and/or experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
Outstanding demonstrated oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively one-on-one and to provide workshops, trainings and outreach programs
Strong interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty and administrators
2-3 years of professional experience in academic advising, admissions counseling, academic support programs or a combination of those areas with another student contact area with demonstrable progressive responsibility.
Demonstrated computer skills and experience using database software (such as Ellucian Banner, Core, SIS+ PeopleSoft, etc) and office support software (such as Excel, Power Point, Word, MS Access, Adobe Acrobat, etc.).
Life experience, education, and/or training that broadens capacity to build a more inclusive, collaborative and diverse community, centered on student success.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally in front of small and large groups and to provide presentations, trainings and outreach programs

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.This position requires a clear and unambiguous commitment to compliance of all National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations for Division I (FBS) universities.
Typical schedule is Monday – Friday 8:00a-5:00p. This position may require occasional evenings and weekends for special events and programs.
