The Office of Research Laboratory Animal Medical Services department is looking to fill a full time position for a Laboratory Animal Aide (LAA). This position will report to the vivarium supervisor. It will involve operating and maintaining equipment such as a Tunnel Washer, Autoclave and Dump Station. If you are a self-starter, have effective communication skills, and values working with a diverse TEAM, then this job is for you.
Job Duties: Operate cage washing equipment and autoclave; Maintain the flow of clean and dirty equipment to ensure the integrity of sanitized and sterilized equipment; Maintain corridors, support rooms and procedures rooms in a clean and orderly fashion; Prepare cages for receipt of animals; Disinfect and sanitize animal housing rooms, support rooms, and equipment; Maintain and rotate inventory and supplies; Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Must have a high school diploma or GED. Must pass a physical examination and test negative for active infectious tuberculosis prior to starting employment. Must have the ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Some positions may require a current valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications: Creative/Innovative; Customer Service driven; Self-starting ability; Able to plan, organize and set priorities to meet deadlines; Ability to multi-task.
Unusual Working Conditions: Subject to exposure to animal bedding, urine, feces, blood, dander (allergens), and odors; Exposure to dust, hot water and steam.
