RESEARCH SCIENTIST, Biology-BioMicro Center, to join a highly collaborative team supporting a broad range of biological research projects in cancer, infectious disease, environmental health, and other topics in basic and applied biology. Will be responsible for complete operation and maintenance of all manual library preparation in the center, including creating routine and specialized custom libraries, maintaining associated equipment, and creating standard operation procedures; coordinate multiple projects to ensure rapid processing of all samples and direct aspects of training for new users and undergraduate students hired by center; assist the automation specialist with protocol development; and coordinate with the center director to identify areas of optimization and improvement of library preparation techniques and publish manuscripts or present at scientific conferences the results of such improvements.
The MIT BioMicro Center is an integrated genomics core facility providing access to cutting edge technology, assistance with experimental methodologies, and training to scientists in over 100 labs across four departments and centers.
Job Requirements REQUIRED: Ph.D. in biological science; minimum of four years' experience handling routine and non-standard Illumina library preparation; familiarity with a broad variety of sequencing library preparation methodologies including multiple distinct methodologies for RNAseq and DNAseq and a documentable high success rate at rapidly implementing such methodologies for a broad variety of biological samples with minimal supervision; ability to recognize new problems/situations or those without precedent and find solutions using a systematic, multistep approach; excellent interpersonal skills; and ability to answer complex questions and share information in a clear, concise manner and take steps to ensure understanding.
