<p><strong>Job Title: Library Associate 2 (Metadata Specialist)</strong></p><p><br /><strong>Position Overview:</strong><br />This 12-month full-time Data Management & Access Department position is responsible for the creation of bibliographic and inventory records for physical, electronic, and digital works. Additionally, the position assists with department workflow and project management. Staff in this position will supervise students. The position reports to the department head.<br /><br /><strong>Duties and Responsibilities:<br />(65%) Metadata Creation</strong><br />- Perform original and complex copy cataloging for physical and electronic monographic materials in general and special collections. Work is done in accordance with local and national descriptive and encoding standards<br />- Analyze content and assign appropriate subject headings, other access points, and classification for these items<br />- Perform authority work including potential creation of authorized heading records<br />- Create metadata for digital assets and digital media in accordance with local and national descriptive and encoding standards<br />- Maintain data integrity in the Libraries’ library management system<br />- Analyze and resolve problems resulting from batch loading processes for electronic bibliographic records<br /><br /><strong>(15%) Project Management</strong><br />- Develop and implement overall work plans for cataloging/metadata and data remediation projects and manage milestones for project completion<br />- Manage departmental cataloging outsourcing program<br />- Prepare statistical/tracking information to include in reports to granting agency<br />- Manage project documentation, including creation of copyright and fair use assessments and the creation of other resources for future projects<br /><br /><strong>(10%) Supervision</strong><br />- Supervise and manage students and work with staff in completion of projects/tasks<br />- Recruits, hires, and provides employee orientation and training for student staff<br />- Defines and assigns work to be done; develops job descriptions and job standards in collaboration with director and other department unit managers<br /><br /><strong>(10%) Collaborative Efforts & Coordination</strong><br />- Serve as a cataloging resource for students and staff library assistants in the department for authority work, classification, subject headings, and cataloging questions<br />- Triage and/or resolve ServiceNow incidents/requests as appropriate.<br />- Provide departmental training, organizing, reviewing, and monitoring of work, and assist with writing or review of documentation<br />- Participate in committees or working groups and interact with other section members to problem-solve, create work procedures, and improve workflow</p>
<p><strong>Required Qualifications:</strong><br />- Bachelor's degree and 2 or more years of relevant library experience or a combo equal to 6 years.<br />- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with original cataloging, standards, schema, and classification.<br />- Excellent oral and written communication skills.<br /><br /><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong><br />- Master’s in Library Science<br />- Ability to work independently and in cooperation with colleagues from a variety of cultures and communities in a service-oriented, collaborative environment.<br />- Supervisory experience.<br />- Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, multitasking, and organizational skills.</p>
