We are seeking a lab manager who will provide administrative and technical support to a group of 8-10 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, while supervising one undergraduate co-op student.
Overall, this position will take a leading role in coordinating the daily activities of the laboratory to ensure that the research team is able to carry out their work efficiently and safely. Administratively, the lab manager will manage purchasing and billing for the laboratory (supplies, equipment, animals, and services through HCOM/PCard), track expenditures, and communicate with vendors as needed. Ensure compliance with institutional and federal guidelines for chemical, microbiological, radionuclide, and general health and safety in the lab, while also making sure that commonly used reagents and equipment are available and in good working order. She/he will oversee the animal colony and will perform independent experiments to assist other lab members. These duties will include maintaining a small colony of commonly used transgenic mouse strains and ensuring proper colony management by other members of the laboratory. Additionally, the lab manager will learn how to carry out techniques to assess hearing in mice and to assist with tissue harvesting and processing, and will write animal protocols that adhere to IACUC guidelines. Finally, this position will be responsible for hiring, training, and supervising an undergraduate co-op student who will perform genotyping and other basic molecular biology tasks for the lab. A successful candidate will be well-organized, motivated, and a responsible team member with effective leadership skills. Experience working with small animals and molecular biology would be a valuable asset.
This is a 12-month term position with the possibility of extension contingent on funding and work performance. Offer contingent upon successful completion of a pre-placement medical evaluation.

1-3 years of laboratory experience, including direct experience handling small animals and managing a mouse colony, as well as performing PCR, making solutions, and isolating plasmids. Familiarity with Mac/Windows operating systems, Filemaker databases, and standard Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc). Basic coursework in molecular biology at an advanced undergraduate level
Good interpersonal skills with a high attention to detail and strong organizational and communication skills, as well as good time management and the ability to multi-task. Direct experience with laboratory management software systems such as Quartzy is a plus, as is any experience performing auditory brainstem response recordings, but neither is necessary.
