Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Chaplain.
In this role, the successful candidate will provide spiritual care to patients, families and staff at NYU Langone Hospitals Center using an inter-faith model of care and working within the patients belief and value system.
Assess patient and family spiritual needs and assists patients and families in using their spiritual resources in dealing with illness, trauma, and stress
Develop plan of care and provide spiritual /emotional support to patients, families: listening presence, prayer, reading sacred texts, ethical guidance, sacraments
Respond to codes and traumas when designated as chaplain-on-call
Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, when possible, and facilitate communication between health care team members
Document all chaplaincy activities in a timely manner according to department protocols.
Facilitate additional spiritual/religious support from community religious leaders, including specific sacramental or religious needs
Provide support to staff, as individuals request it, or through participation in institutional events such as Nurses Week or when groups request it after traumatic events and loss.
Plan and lead worship opportunities, including interfaith memorial services, as assigned by manager
Lead spirituality/study/support groups as assigned by the manager
Adhere to Standards of Practice of the Association of Professional Chaplains and the principles and practices of Outcome Oriented Chaplaincy
Ensure a safe environment and effective communicate with all age groups of patients served by the Chaplaincy Services Department.
Function in such a manner that reflects the mission and vision of the institution
Maintain a positive working relationship between the department of Chaplaincy Services and medical staff, nursing staff, and other departments.
Complete office or administrative tasks as assigned with expectation of computer literacy and in accordance with institutional policy.
Advise manager of important patient/clinical issues as they arise
Promote an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care among all chaplains.
Participate in the departments plan for continuous quality improvement.
Mentor CPE student and volunteers, as assigned by the manager
Serve on institutional committees as appointed.
Contribute to the wider community through publication, teaching, and research.
Participate in teaching/lecturing on a regular or periodic basis as invited.
Participate in regular professional development activities and supervision.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Certification as Board Certified Chaplain by the Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, or National Association of Jewish Chaplains or certification eligibility and must obtain certification within two years.
Experience working in the field of palliative care.

Master of Divinity degree, Master of Arts in Religion, or Master of Pastoral Counseling from an accredited school of theology or Ordination. In process for ordination or commissioning by recognized religious group.
