Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute (SWVMHI), part of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s behavioral health system, is seeking qualified candidates for a Clinical Social Worker position. SWVMHI is a progressive inpatient facility whose mission is to promote mental health by assisting people in their recovery in the southwestern Virginia region.
The purpose of the Clinical Social Worker on an Adult inpatient unit is to provide the full array of Social Work services to assist patients in their recovery, including but not limited to individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, assessments of patients, treatment planning, discharge planning, case management, assessing the patient’s needs upon discharge to the Community and being a member of the treatment team, and serving on facility committees. The CSW assists in identifying the age-specific needs of the adult populations. Considerable knowledge of human behavior and development, social systems, social work principles and practices, and social assessment methodology, case management and therapeutic counseling. Ability to provide social services and assistance to patients; coordinate agency and community resources; communicate orally and in writing all assessments and interventions with patients, families and external agencies; and to work effectively to solve problems. Knowledge of psychiatric recovery. Ability to write and implement treatment plans. Familiarity with computer use. Graduation from a regionally accredited school or university, MSW required. Prefer LCSW.
