This is a unique opportunity for a talented residence life professional! Manages college residence hall operations including supervising six Resident Advisor (RAs), marketing the residence hall, programming, and community building. Serves as the only residence life professional for the college and reports to the Director of Student Life. Manages a supply and programming budget of $11K for a resident population of 140 students. Produces an annual marketing campaign including website updates, printed materials, and email advertisements to attract undergraduate and graduate students. Responsible for room assignment, room changes, and roommate mediation. Responsible for key and electronic access card auditing and distribution. Assists with other campus-wide, student affairs activities such as convocation, new student orientation, and accepted students day. Works closely with the Patrick Henry building manager. Serves on other college committees.
Work is performed in a variety of on and off campus settings. Occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds) and moderate physical activity, including walking, stooping, reaching, and jogging is required. Frequent communication with all levels of JCHS personnel, Carilion affiliates and outside groups associated with residence and student life activities. Normal work schedule will include periodic evening and weekend activities, as needed.
This is a live-in position, with housing provided by the College in the residence halls. Pets are not allowed.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, preferably in student affairs, education, or counseling.
Experience: Experience as a Resident Assistant (RA) and Resident Director (RD) required.
Licensure/Certifications/Registration: Valid Virginia Drivers license.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Position is live-in; must be willing to live in a College residence hall.
Excellent collegial leadership and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated initiative in enhancing outcomes for assigned responsibilities. A positive, energetic and supportive attitude a must. Must possess reliable transportation for infrequent use in the transportation of student activity related materials.
