The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Institute for Genome Sciences (IGS) is recruiting for a Laboratory Research Assistant to be responsible for performing research activities in a laboratory setting . The candidate we are seeking will have knowledge of next generation sequencing techniques. Prior experience with bioinformatic analyses and/or programming is a plus.

Perform routine laboratory maintenance such as: general housekeeping, preparing solutions and buffers;
Perform research activities in a molecular biology laboratory executing biochemical procedures such as: electrophoresis, DNA/RNA extractions, PCRs, qPCRs, next-generation sequencing library preparation, etc.
May perform advanced laboratory research activities and participate in the design of research studies.
Compile and may analyze research data using various relevant computer software applications.
Assist with literature research, editing and preparing manuscripts, scientific illustrations and computer graphics for publication.
May perform administrative duties such as: training and guiding students and/or other laboratory technicians; assisting in developing policies, procedures and/or methods for laboratory experimentation; and ordering supplies.
Education: Bachelor's in Biology, Chemistry or in a field of study related to the research of the laboratory. (May consider a combination of directly related experience and education.)
