APEX is looking for the right individual to join our Systems Support team in the role of Data Center Network Engineer. The individual will be based out of the APEX data center in Suwanee, GA.
The Data Center Network Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research, development & support to enable smooth infrastructure, ensuring that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, storage, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, users, and clients. This position also acts as the next escalation level for the help desk team.
Monitor, diagnose, and resolve complex network and computer system issues including but not limited to Cisco UCS/Dell Power Edge/Storage Arrays/Network Switches.
Manage and administer servers, networks, and applications such as DNS, FTP, and Web.
Install, configure, and maintain switches, servers, firewalls, and hard drives.
Troubleshoot network systems to identify and fix performance issues.
Provide solutions to complex problems on the integration of various technologies.
Design plans as well as lead initiatives for the optimization and restructuring of network architecture.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of network administration and firmware integration.
Monitor the environmental conditions of a data center to ensure they are optimum for servers, routers, and other devices.
Perform system repairs and update software/operating systems.
Calibrate and monitor data center servers to ensure efficient performance.
Conduct inspections on power and cooling systems to ensure they are operational and efficient.
Organize the floor space that harbor data center equipment to allow for easy accessibility.
Resolve operational, infrastructure or hardware incidents in a data center.
Skills and Abilities and Other Characteristics:
Be a good team player with a high degree of self-motivation and the ability to manage additional technical resources to meet the project requirements.
Strong aptitude for learning new technologies and understanding how to utilize them in a customer’s environment.
Good interpersonal communication and customer service skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Creative approach to problem solving.
Experience with monitoring tools.
Adept at conducting tests to identify faults in server hardware and network systems.
Able to work with data teams across to rack/stack/provision and configure to run smooth operations.
Able to effectively complete job tasks within set time constraints.
A plus to have experience with UCS/ESX/VMWare/Hyper Visors.
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or equivalent practical experience.
Racking/Stacking experience with network/server/UCS/san switches/blade servers - 2yrs
Routing & Switching/IPS/IDS/firewalls - 5 years
Participation in at least 2 successful DR implementations and testing.
Working Conditions/Physical Effort:
Responsibilities require working normal business hours including on call support with availability during off hours for outages and customer escalation.
Lifting 50lbs or more while server provisioning.
No regular travel required.
