The Human Oncology and Pathogenesis Program (HOPP) was founded by Dr. Charles Sawyers in 2006 to address the challenges presented by cancer research in the era of targeted therapies. By bringing together researchers in many disciplines, HOPP's goal is to advance scientific knowledge while bridging discoveries made in the laboratory with those made in the clinic. The department has grown to a faculty of nearly 20 physician-scientists, each with independent laboratories and research aims, and approximately 300 research and administrative staff.
HOPP's administrative team partners with Dr. Sawyers and the HOPP Faculty to provide operational, financial and administrative support to facilitate the effective functioning of their research and academic efforts.
As the HOPP Program Assistant , you will:
Provide administrative and operational support to the HOPP management team (Sr. Program Manager, Sr. Manager & Director of Research Operations) as well as supplemental support for the other Administrative Assistants and their respective faculty across the HOPP department
Maintain departmental organizational charts and contact list
Mange expense forms workflows and submit payroll
Coordinate the recruitment, appointment and reappointment for all trainees across the department
At times, may assume primary administrative coverage for a HOPP Faculty member and their lab
Assist with onboarding and on-going training and mentorship to less experienced Administrative Assistants
Assist with the development, planning and execution of various projects in support of departmental operations and laboratory initiatives to include capital equipment inventory management, Kemper and equipment repair for shared resources.
An excellent communicator who can leverage interpersonal skills to partner and work with the full range of clients and stakeholders and function effectively in diverse settings (e.g., over the phone, in-person, in meetings or in giving presentations)
Flexible, detail oriented and able to prioritize a diverse and fluctuating workload
Committed, hard-working, and a selfless team-player
A High School Diploma or GED; Bachelors degree preferred
Four years of financial or healthcare experience preferred
Demonstrated project management capabilities with the desire and ability to learn and develop additional project management skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-centered environment exercising judgment and discretion with limited immediate oversight
