About the Mathematics Department:
The Department of Mathematics at Massasoit Community College is looking for dynamic and engaged educators to join its faculty. The department serves a crucial role at the college, helping students, many of whom come to the college with significant knowledge gaps and a fear of mathematics, to advance their mathematical knowledge and quantitative fluency. To fill this role, department members serve as leaders and innovators, as well as outstanding educators. Taking a data driven approach, department members work collaboratively with others at the college to promote active learning and student responsibility. Members work to develop, implement, review and support programs that increase student success while maintaining high expectations and standards. Members also work closely with faculty and educational leaders throughout Massachusetts to develop a shared vision of mathematics education.
This full-time position will teach a range of mathematics courses fifteen hours/week between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The position requires a wide range of professional responsibilities and activities related to supporting student success in mathematics, particularly in areas related to developmental math and early college. Successful candidates will be expected to develop fluency with online academic and administrative tools such as CANVAS, BANNER and other systems employed at the college. The position also requires student advising, attendance at departmental, divisional and all college meetings, serving on college committees and other duties as assigned and outlined in the MCCC agreement.
Experience in and enthusiasm for teaching developmental mathematics courses (Prealgebra, Algebra I, and Algebra II-level courses).
Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
Experience in curriculum and course development
A willingness to teach online, hybrid, and emporium model courses
Fluency with learning management systems and other instructional technology (e.g., Canvas, Moodle, Black Board, MyLabs and Mastering, ALEKS, WebAssign)
Experience with Texas Instruments graphing calculators (TI-83/84 and Voyage 200)
At least three years full or part-time teaching experience
Experience teaching a variety of mathematics courses, preferably in a community college setting
Experience leading and participating in curricular and program development
Experience working with at-risk populations
Experience developing and teaching developmental courses involving emporium-based, accelerated and co-requisite models.
Experience in teaching and developing math courses to support early childhood/elementary education and vocational/technical programs.
Experience teaching statistics
Fluency in using a variety of effective pedagogical strategies to promote student success.
Experience with grant-writing
Experience with K-12 education and familiarity with K-12 Mathematics frameworks and testing.
An interest and experience in working to develop and manage partnerships with area school districts.
A willingness to be involved in activities with the student body and interest in providing opportunities for students to extend learning outside of the classroom.
Worksite: Assignments may be made at any Massasoit site, which includes Brockton, Canton and Middleborough.
Supervisor: Reports Directly to Division Dean, Science and Mathematics
Term of Appointment: Full-time, tenure track position. Terms governed by MCCC/MTA
Anticipated Start Date: September 1, 2018
Salary: $44,874.00 - $61,470.00 early commensurate with education and experience in conjunction with
MCCC classification, Full Time State Funded with Benefits
