The Director of Institutional Research (IR) provides leadership and management to the IR Office supporting the University’s mission and strategic plan. The Director is responsible for the development, management, and coordination of data collection and analysis, reporting, providing recommendations, and forecasts in support of student retention and success, accreditation, decision making and policy development, academic program evaluation, and maintaining and disseminating institutional descriptive, comparative, and evaluative studies.
Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities
Provides leadership and management to a team responsible for the day-to-day operations and overall quality of work of the Institutional Research (IR) office in support of the University’s mission, and strategic plan ensuring accurate and timely submission of applicable reporting and compliance requirements to federal, state, accrediting body, university, and other agencies and organizations.
Serves as the institutional liaison for information and services relating to IR by coordinating Higher Education Information System (HEI), and IPEDS across academic and non-academic operations to submit data to the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) and national organizations.
Establishes, administers, and oversees the development, collection, organization, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of institutional data, systematic and ad hoc project requests for internal and external constituents.
Collaborates with internal and external constituents on projects involving a wide range of University matters, including but not limited to the data warehouse, academic program evaluation, student retention and success, Institutional Effectiveness, accreditation, surveys, diversity and inclusion activities.
Develops, implements, and maintains a system of dashboards and analytical tools to support university planning, decision-making, policy initiatives, and recurring descriptive, comparative, and evaluative studies.
Works on special projects and studies to address decision-making needs of the institution and for senior administrative staff; represents the Vice Provost of Institutional Effectiveness in internal and external meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
Thorough knowledge of advanced research methodology, including qualitative and quantitative techniques, and expert skills with database development, data management and query tools.
Experience with the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) reporting and survey tools and requirements, National Clearinghouse, Higher Education Information System (HEI), and Delaware Cost (NSICP).
Possess strong analytical and technical skills related to descriptive and inferential statistics, and analytical data analysis such as Excel, Access, SAS, Tableau or other data analysis programs and data visualization tools.
Knowledge of current practices in Institutional Research, including ethical use of data and privacy requirements.
Utilizes proactive problem solving techniques, accuracy and attention to detail, and use of professional judgment in a complex team environment.
Demonstrated exceptional time management and organizational skills with the ability to direct, manage, and prioritize multiple and complex assignments, projects and deadlines concurrently.
Demonstrated excellent organization, interpersonal, analytic, and customer service,
Ability to take initiative, work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues across the institution.
Demonstrated strong supervisory and leadership skills to direct, and manage an Institutional Research team; ability to plan, organize and implement assigned responsibilities, determine work procedures, assign duties, and promote efficiency.
Demonstrated ability to present complex findings and recommendations in a clear concise manner both verbally and in writing.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of trustees.

Master’s Degree in a Higher Education, MBA, MPA or closely related applicable field required.
Also the following experience is required:
Minimum of five (5) years of research and/or compiling/analyzing data
Minimum of five (5) years of data warehousing/data management and data mining
Minimum of five (5) years of experience with federal and state compliance (e.g., Integrated Postsecondary Education Data Systems (IPEDS) in higher education
Minimum of three (3) years management responsibility
Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in a quantitative research or closely related applicable field (social sciences, mathematics, higher education, statistics, business analytics).
