Under general supervision, identifies and assigns accession numbers to diagnosed cancer patients and enters information into the computer database; retrieves and abstracts information from the medical record and codes and stages tumors. Prepares and maintains computerized files, abstracts and reports, and conducts follow-up responsibilities.
Promotes Exceptional Patient Care by: Identifying cases to be entered into the facility data base that meets the requirements on both a state and national level in a timely manner.
Achieve exceptional Quality/Outcomes through: Audit all cases to ensure cases meet state and national reporting and passes edit checks.
Achieve exceptional Customer Satisfaction through: Monitor the health status of patients on an annual bases on all patients entered into the data base.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
RHIT or RHIA Associate Degree
Must be Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) or eligible for certification (must obtain CTR within two years of hire date)
1-3 years registry experience or medical records experience.
Requires effective oral and written communication skills to communicate with physicians, patients, family members and co-workers. Analytical skills to perform ICD-9 coding and to prepare statistical reports for utilization review or as re-quested by physicians or administrative staff.
