Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an IRB Administrator for the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED).
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides day-to-day oversight and management of the Rutgers human research protection program.
Helps create processes and procedures that facilitate research while ensuring compliance with all federal regulations, policies, and guidelines, coordinating with researchers and staff.
Confers with government Human Research Protection officials, as needed, and might need to work with external institutional research boards on collaborative research.
Consults with the Human Subjects Protection Program Executive Director as well as the Office of Research Regulatory Affairs (ORRA) Institutional Official, as necessary on matters of legal and regulatory policy interpretation and liaison with outside counsel.
Prepares meeting agendas, assigns submissions for review and prepares meeting materials.
Drafts correspondence of reviews to convey IRB deliberations and contingencies for approval of research activities involving human subjects.
Attends monthly IRB Meetings to take notes in preparation for subsequent correspondence and/or minutes.
Ensures that IRB determinations are effectively communicated to investigators within a timely fashion.
Conducts training sessions on new electronic submission system and attends meetings on any Rutgers campus, as needed.
Provides consultation based on knowledge of federal, state and Rutgers regulations.
Advises IRB members of review requirements based on policy, regulation, statute and legal precedent.
Reviews grants with human subjects for alignment with IRB-approved human subjects protocols.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree (psychology/anthropology/sociology/social work/public policy or other research-emphasized area); or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Minimum of five years of human subjects research experience, emphasis on social-behavioral research; knowledge of the interpretation of Federal and NJ State regulations regarding human research.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal skills in addition to great problem-solving, self-initiation, and decision making skills; demonstrated excellence in customer service.
Experience with high volumes and rigid deadlines.
Familiarity with research ethics and methods and the ability to conduct independent literature research.
Solid PC skills including thorough knowledge of MS Office functions, including Word, Access and Excel.
Familiarity with electronic databases, such as PRO-IRB™ or eIRB™ software (or have used other similar IRB electronic-system software).
A Master's degree in a research related field; have previous grant and contract administration; Or a JD with a background in regulatory affairs; Certified IRB Manager (CIM) OR Certified IRB Professional (CIP)
