The University of California, Berkeley Clinical Research Center (UCB-CRC) currently has an opening for a Staff Research Associate I position to begin as soon as possible. The primary objective of the UCB-CRC is to work closely with industry, foundations, and government to design and evaluate innovations in patient care. We are looking for an experienced individual to work with a team of highly motivated and talented research and administrative personnel who conduct patient-based clinical vision research in a very fast-paced, dynamic environment.
The Clinical Research Coordinator will be responsible for screening, recruiting, and scheduling appointments with study participants based on study criteria; data management- compiling and resolving discrepancies; developing case report forms (study documents) with clinical investigators; corresponding with clinical sites, study sponsors, and regulatory agencies in regards to study information; assembling site instruction materials and study documents; compensate study participants composing update project status reports; creating and maintaining study binders for Quality Assurance; appointment reminders. Incumbent will oversee internal initiated sponsored studies- designing and writing internal research protocols; collect research data points from human study participants, utilizing various ophthalmic equipment; prioritizing multiple study schedules to maximize subject enrollment and completion of study visits with the Principal Investigator; ongoing training and supervising of undergraduate-student assistants in daily office and study-related tasks. Scheduling patient appointments in the Dry Eye Clinic and Ocular Surface Imaging Clinic; scheduling undergraduate research assistants; providing update reports to the Principal Investigator on internal study progress and the Ocular Surface Imaging Clinic; literature searches; article submissions to research publications; track study expenditures and patient-based expenditures.
This position requires meticulous attention to detail and the people-skills necessary to work and interact with human subjects. Incumbent will assist with study subject recruitment, appointment reminders, data entry, monitoring contact lens inventory, and other office administrative tasks as needed. Receive, verify and merge all data received for each assigned study; resolve discrepancies, errors, and omissions in data; oversee the workflow process and report turnaround times for each assigned study; assist in the assembly of site instruction materials, study forms, and case report forms; take minutes at CRC meetings; order, maintain, and restock CRC equipment and supplies. Under the supervision of the Office Manager, the incumbent will contribute to the continuous quality improvement efforts of the CRC; is responsible for contacting subjects on study related issues, making/confirming appointments, and subject compensation. Incumbent will function secondarily as a technician and take preliminary screening measurements using various pieces of optometric equipment. Incumbent will also assist the Project Manager and other CRC personnel in corresponding with clinical sites, monitors, study sponsors, and regulatory agencies by faxing, e-mailing, and/or mailing correspondence, documents, forms, and study materials. Incumbent may and will be required to perform other duties on an as-requested basis to support the needs of the CRC. This is a full-time, paid position through the University of California, Berkeley.1. BA/BS in a science or health-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; 2. Fluent and literate in English; 3. Prior experience recruiting and conducting interviews with patients or other sensitive populations; 4. Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment, problem solve, prioritize workload, and be flexible; 5. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and to exercise judgment in identifying problems and seeking advice and assistance; 6. Strong interpersonal skills, including an interest in an aptitude in working with staff who have varying levels of responsibility within the organizational structure at different clinical sites; 7.
