: This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years\. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment\. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance\. : We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to join a team pursuing leading edge research in the development and analysis of numerical methods for multi\-fluid plasma models and particle\-in\-cell \(PIC\) models\. This role offers the opportunity to work as part of a multi\-disciplinary team and to thrive in an expanding, fast\-paced technical environment\. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Perform software development and numerical experimentation+ Coauthor journal publications and conference presentations\.+ Travel as required to support ongoing efforts and to attend relevant conferences Required: + PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in mathematics, computer science, engineering, or a related area+ Experience in finite\-volume and/or discontinuous Galerkin discretizations for nonlinear hyperbolic systems: e\.g\. Euler or magnetohydrodynamics+ Experience with software development in C\+\+ and experience utilizing software libraries for scientific software development+ Experience in a collaborative research environment addressing problems comprising diverse application domains+ Excellent communication skills and evidence of relevant and exceptional research achievements as demonstrated in the form of technical publications, presentations, software tools, and/or knowledge of applications+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q clearance Desired: + Expertise in finite\-volume and/or discontinuous Galerkin discretizations for nonlinear hyperbolic systems, focusing on stabilization schemes for strong shocks+ Background and expertise in particle\-in\-cell \(PIC\) methods+ Background and expertise in computational electromagnetics and in particular plasma physics, and/or multi\-fluid magnetohydrodynamic \(MHD\) systems+ Background and expertise in large\-scale scientific computation Department Description: The Computational Mathematics Department \(01442\) conducts research in computational and applied mathematics motivated by science and engineering applications of interest to Sandia National Laboratories and the U\.S\. Department of Energy\. Members of the department interact and collaborate with a broad range of Sandia and DOE staff and also maintain a research presence in the external professional community by collaborating with universities and industry, publishing peer\-reviewed literature, participating in professional societies, and refereeing and editing for journals\.
