The Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is a new position in the College of Nursing to further expand on an existing role of Director of DEI who chairs an active diversity committee consisting of faculty, staff, and student representatives.
We are seeking an expert with strong history of interdisciplinary and/or intersectional research that enhances diversity and inclusion in health, healthcare, and/or higher education. In addition to conducting scholarly research and teaching, the Associate Dean will lead efforts to systematically integrate equity, diversity, and inclusivity into our research, academic programs, clinical practice and community health to create transformative impact. The Associate Dean will assist the College in achieving inclusive excellence through developing and implementing a strategic plan to enhance the College's compositional diversity, climate, achievement, and community engagement. The Associate Dean will also work closely with the University Chief Diversity Officer and the Council of Academic Diversity Officers to support university equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts. The Associate Dean will devote 50% effort on administrative duties; 40% on research; and 10% teaching/mentoring students.
The Associate Dean of DEI reports to the Dean. The Associate Dean will strive to enhance diversity and inclusivity among students, faculty, and staff in part by working to recruit and retain richly diverse students, staff, faculty, and college community.
As the thought leader for diversity and inclusion in their respective College/School the Associate Dean will:
-Create a vision and strategy for supporting the college/school's commitment to being a diverse, safe and inclusive learning environment in all aspects of our mission – teaching, research, practice/service.
-Develop and implement evidence-based initiatives to enhance the recruitment, retention and success of faculty, staff, and students with emphasis on underrepresented groups in the field of nursing.
-Develop and sustain diversity and inclusion initiatives such as faculty training in inclusive pedagogies and the exploration of ways to broaden the inclusion of diverse voices in the curriculum and clinical training for nurses.
-Maintain his/her active program of research with pursuit of active federal funding/other external sources of funding.
-Work with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to report and assess college/school efforts focused on composition, achievement, engagement and inclusion to include the development, interpretation and reporting of campus climate studies. The Associate Dean for DEI will meet regularly with the University Chief Diversity Officer on these and other endeavors.
-Provide consultation and recommended actions involving specific issues/challenges related to discrimination, harassment or incivility, as they are reported in the College.

Advertised Minimum Qualifications :
Earned doctorate in nursing (preferred) or related field. Eligible for licensure in South Carolina. Tenure eligible, and meet criteria for rank of professor. Active program of research with history of federal and other extramural funding.
