Cybersecurity data is collected in structured, unstructured, and semi-structured formats, at varying velocities, and in a complex, dynamic security environment. This creates unique data engineering challenges for data scientists, analysts, and investigators. The ideal candidates have experience creatively navigating development and engineering challenges within a large organization and within a 24/7/365 operations environment, as well as being capable of a) implementing procedures and systems for the protection, conservation, and accountability of proprietary, personal, or privileged electronic data; and b) working directly with user departments to assist in the development and implementation of information security policies, standards, and procedures.This position requires the ability to work hours mirroring the hours of teammates, as directed, typically starting at 8:00 am CST. This position will also require availability to work on-call and non-standard hours when necessary.The Big Data Science Engineer will provide operational support to and reports to the ISO Cybersecurity Manager.ResponsibilitiesForming strategy for data collection, data processing, and efficient use of the Optum Security Big Data Lake Collecting, cleaning, processing, and analyzing data related to enterprise cybersecurity Collaborating with external vendors and product teams to identify opportunities for new technologies or expanded use of existing technologies Working with source data teams to facilitate and optimize data flow into the Data Lake Developing and engineering solutions for technical users to access data from the Data Lake through a variety of means, including APIs, flat file extracts, or web applications Remaining up-to-date and on the cutting edge of Big Data technology Constantly learning and adapting to new techniques, languages, and technologies Developing and implementing information security policies, standards, and procedures to secure and protect data residing on systems Working directly with user departments to implement procedures and systems for the protection, conservation, and accountability of proprietary, personal, or privileged electronic data
Required QualificationsUndergraduate Degree or equivalent experience1 or more years of implementing Big Data ingestion solutions, including use of Flume, Kafka, Spark, and NiFi 1 or more years of utilizing Big Data resource and job managers, including Oozie or YARN 1 or more years of following and implementing Apache Top-Level projects Background experience with data engineering with an affinity for developing code from the command lineFoundational knowledge in information technology, including hardware, networking, architecture, protocols, file systems, and operating systems Familiar with Java or Python development in a large organizationHave or be able to obtain pertinent security clearancesAbility to troubleshoot in highly complex, technical situations within a matrixed organizationExperience in a Fortune 500 company or large organizationsPreferred QualificationsExperience in the cybersecurity domain Experience working with Big Data systemsPetabyte-scale experience with Big Data engineeringDevelopment of end-user tools to access data systemsInterest in learning implementations of Flink, Zeppelin, Tez, and moreStrong planning and problem-solving skillsTechnology Careers with Optum.
