The Instructional Designer is responsible for the success of a number of projects simultaneously, assessing risk, reporting progress, focusing on pedagogical and design details that ensure high quality courses, and communicating effectively with stakeholders in an effort to promote collaboration and accountability. The person in this position will work with faculty to design, assess, revise, and maintain blended and online courses.
FACULTYCONSULTATION & COURSEDESIGN
Apply evidence-based best practices in learning theory, pedagogy, assessment techniques, and instructional design in the development and evaluation of courses and degree programs.
Work with faculty to map the course development plan including syllabus, schedule, course content and materials, learning activities, and assessments.
Ensure proper alignment between assessments, activities and learning objectives.
Collaborate with instructors to develop an instructional strategy with an emphasis on active learning and student experience.
Provide online teaching consultation by understanding faculty teaching style, pedagogical approach, the course learning objectives, and the instructional components while co-developing an online course development strategy and co-identifying relevant learning technologies.
Assist faculty to iteratively design, assess and revise course materials and procedures with the goal of incremental improvement.
COURSECOMPONENTS & MEDIADEVELOPMENT
Work with subject matter experts and librarians to identify and curate existing learning objects and resources to be incorporated into a course design.
Work with SME's to develop technology-enhanced instructional materials that are consistent with sound instructional design principles and based on quality rubrics.
Guide and support faculty in learning to use tools and techniques to create effective instructional media and materials.
Produce learning objects in a variety of formats such as text, graphics, audio, video, motion graphics, multimedia,and e-Learning interactive modules.
Ensure quality of instructional materials by collaborating with faculty to prepare visuals and scripts, coaching faculty during recordings, and working closely with faculty and media editors on production.
Employ the principles of multimedia learning research, graphic design principles, usability best practices and accessibility standards in the development of instructional media and learning materials.
Provide technical support to faculty.
Create faculty training resources and facilitate faculty development workshops on best practices for online instruction
Develop and teach faculty and staff professional development activities in areas of instructional design and instructional technology.
Develop informational materials to help faculty in adopting new learning technologies and pedagogical innovations.
Research current topics, issues, models, and best practices related to digital learning and online education.
Partner with faculty and staff to conduct educational research projects related to digital learning and online education.
Conduct pilot experiments with faculty and implement new online pedagogical innovations and educational technologies.
Research and evaluate new and emerging technologies, innovative strategies, instructional design theories, and approaches for potential application to instructional opportunities.
Participate in online learning communities.
Master’s Degree in an academic discipline with a minimum of three years related work experience. Or, a Ph.D. with one year related work experience.
