The Universities at Shady Grove (USG) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Nursing is seeking an Administrative Assistant I. Under general supervision, the Administrative Assistant I provides complex administrative and technical support to the nursing academic programs at Shady Grove. Work requires thorough knowledge of the organization and programs where assigned and involves moderate participation in the work of the supervisor. Incumbents have responsibility for office operations and function independently, where procedures have been established with moderate consequence of error.
The University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Nursing students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, RN-to-BSN option, and Family Nurse Practitioner specialty have the ability to attend courses and complete the entire program at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) in Rockville, Maryland. Universities at Shady Grove (USG) is a collaboration of nine, public degree-granting institutions that brings some of the top programs from across the state to one convenient facility in Montgomery County. Edits, formats, and revises a variety of documents and materials created by others. Proofreads for grammatical, typographical and basic content errors.
Composes responses to routine inquiries in accordance to general instructions.
Develops, implements, and maintains paper and electronic filing systems which meet department needs and satisfy requirements for retention and information security. Enters, updates, and retrieves information as needed. Inputs data and maintains databases.
Screens telephone calls and visitors, independently handles routine matters, and forwards remainder to appropriate parties.
Schedules and coordinates meetings, appointments, and other activities such as labs and classes. Prepares background and support materials following general instructions. May attend meetings and provide minutes.
Makes travel arrangements following general instructions and campus procedures. Performs necessary follow-up for vouchers, expense reports, and reimbursements.
Gathers and consolidates background information for reports, utilizing available resources such as departmental files, policy and procedure documents, Internet research, and communication with internal and external contacts.
Orders supplies and equipment. Oversees equipment maintenance. May assist with department budget, updating department accounts, and creating routine reports.

EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience providing administrative support, preferably in a higher education and/or healthcare institution.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to proofread, edit and format documents.
Ability to interact courteously and efficiently with internal and external parties. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and execute multiple assignments.
Hiring Range : $34,075-$37,000
