Reporting to the Director of Alumni Relations, the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations will contribute to the design and implementation of a comprehensive Young Alumni and Student engagement program to strengthen and foster meaningful lifelong relationships with alumni from graduation forward; and collaborate with team members and other departments to build alumni relationships and increase engagement through alumni relations functions.
The position responsibilities include:
Plan and implement a variety of programs to increase student engagement. This includes liaising with student organization leaders to execute affinity-based mentoring programs at the Law School; and maintaining connectivity with student organization leaders on events and programs involving alumni.
Develop and implement the Graduating Students Gift Campaign with a focus on peer-to-peer fundraising. Create and execute class-based engagement opportunities with attention to philanthropy education efforts. Engage in annual review of the Graduating Students Gift Campaign and other student programs and make strategic changes in order to drive continually increasing goals for engagement of students.
Manage the Alumni Admissions Network and Public Interest Alumni Network, working closely with colleagues in the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid and the Office of the Dean of Students.
Plan and execute class-based and/or regional programming to encourage young alumni involvement, interaction, and greater connection to other alumni and to the Law School. Collaborate with University-wide Alumni Relations and Development, Law School Office of the Dean of Students, and Law School Office of Career Services to develop strategic planning for the cultivation of new alumni.
Prepare materials for and lead conference calls and in-person meetings, develop and distribute reports, and cultivate relationships with individual volunteers and particularly committee and program leaders. Assist with event planning and attend local and out-of-state functions. Serve as a key resource for alumni leaders and other volunteers, advising on best practices in terms of mission, group structure, and outreach.
Develop and execute professional development programming to enhance engagement with young alumni, including newsletter series and digital webinar series. Work closely with colleagues in the Office of Career Services.
Assist with the planning and execution of department-wide alumni events, such as Reunion Weekend. Oversee project timelines and develop appropriate infrastructures, systems, and materials. Staff events, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
Develop and implement a system of metrics to measure and drive young alumni and student engagement behavior including go, give, help, and connect. Develop and maintain relationships with donors, volunteer leadership, faculty and administrators to advance efforts.
Advance relationships that result in alumni engagement and philanthropic contributions by conducting assigned number of individual alumni visits. Identify, qualify, and solicit individual prospects.
Serve as data management and confidentiality super-user; conduct benchmarking and train staff on best practices.
Gather, record and properly store information about alumni and donors utilizing Griffin, the University's donor and alumni tracking database.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree or higher required.
A minimum of three years of professional work experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, sales or similar professional work experience required.
Demonstrated experience in planning and managing programs required.
Demonstrated experience planning and executing events required.
Demonstrated ability to work successfully with volunteers and to direct and promote complex events and projects.
Strong verbal and writing skills, high attention to detail and follow-up, and excellent organizational skills required.
Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and tact required.
Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly, the internal work of the Law School and the University as well as the technology tools available through the University Office of Alumni Relations and Development, including Griffin (the University's Donor Relationship Management System), Microsoft Windows computer environment, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access required.
Ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team setting required.

Experience working with graduate students and/or recent professional school graduates strongly preferred.
Understanding of the University of Chicago, its history, organization, and culture preferred.
