This position is in the Department of WashU IT - Systems Ops Center. This position is for the Danforth Campus.
Under moderate supervision operates server equipment and related peripheral equipment. This includes production printers and various tape library systems. Responsible for the monitoring and alert escalation of enterprise network and server infrastructure. This includes wired and wireless network, servers, storage, and data center infrastructure. Serve as a Tier 1 escalation point for helpdesk staff, software and hardware requiring maintenance, repair, service activation and hardware infrastructure. Works with Lead Operator Analyst to create training documentation and train other operators.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain, monitor and problem resolution for supported hardware.
Monitor server backups running under various backup methods (BackupExec, Veeam, Networker).� This includes mounting tapes and reporting on any failed jobs using our current ticketing system.
Monitor networks and systems.
Access networks and systems to identify and resolve incidents.
Take lead to make and/or suggest & implement improvements or innovations.
Maintain and update monitoring infrastructure and automation tools.
Respond to infrastructure and system alerts, take appropriate action to classify, and assist prioritizing network and system issues.
Effective communication of incident status and technical issues to stakeholders.
Maintain, monitor and problem resolution for hosted applications.
Monitor and interpret alerts for Application Scheduler software (such as Autosys and MicroFocus) and from approved hardware vendors (such as HP and Dell).
Monitor Kohler and various others systems related to power equipment.
Ensure the appropriate designated person(s) is contacted for support.
Perform system restarts as scheduled or on demand.
Documentation and reporting.
Maintain records and logs as required for the proper functioning of all networks, printers, tape autoloaders, servers, and ancillary equipment.
Contact Co-Location customers as necessary regarding status of their hardware.
Assist in preparing training documentation and training of Operators.
Travel to university data centers for regular system and infrastructure checks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Associate degree with 1 year network and server experience or equivalent combination of education experience
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
4+ years systems & networking experience
ITIL Foundation Knowledge
Ability and willingness to adapt to change and demands on time
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong customer service skills
Knowledge of and ability to carry out escalation procedures
Ability to work well as part of a team
Knowledge of current Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems
Ability to resolve complex technical problems and projects
Knowledge of Cisco networking
Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
Working Knowledge of documentation standards
Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Perl, command line, Power Shell)
Ability to adjust work schedule time for maintenance windows
The hiring range for this position is $18.44 - $23.52 per hour.
