Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Counselor. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for freshmen and sophomores of the New Brunswick Undergraduate program.
The Student Counselor: -Responsible for day-to-day advising of Sophomore Year Students (currently a caseload of 1100 – 1200). -Collaborates in academic advising duties with second sophomore counselor. -Primary duties include advisement with respect to courses needed to complete pre-business requirements, major requirements, monitoring academic progress of RBS Sophomores, as well as determining financial/personal issues and directing students to support services when necessary. -Ensures students are aware of and follow the policies and procedures of Rutgers Business School – Newark and New Brunswick. -Develops liaison relationships with RBS faculty and staff, as well as other university departments. -Conducts academic evaluations and transcript reviews twice a year. -Participates in RBS events such as Open House, Academic Planning & Advising Days, transfer orientations, major fairs, and other related events. -Develops recruitment and informational materials in conjunction with Assistant Dean. -Sends academic dismissal letters at the end of each term. -Maintains student records and advises dismissed students about opportunities outside of the Business School. Records all interactions with students in advising database. -Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends. -Travel among regional campuses is required.

Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or at least three years related experience in higher education.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-Must be able to multitask and handle a diverse range of responsibilities. -Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are a must. Also requires excellent team, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills as well as computer knowledge and skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook). -Must have ability to relate and interact with college students. -Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends. -Strong problem-solving and prioritizing skills needed daily and must be able to manage multiple tasks and interruptions. -Must be able to work with faculty and staff at all levels within the university.
Master's degree preferred. Experience with student services preferred. Familiarity with Rutgers computing programs including IMS and Degree Navigator is preferred. Experience with academic or student services preferred.
Student Counselor must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; will be required to use Degree Navigator, Image Now, and IMS, as well as other propriety University applications. Must be familiar with Adobe PDF files.
