Towson University is accepting applications for an Accounting Clerk III. This position will accept tuition payment for students, deposit for departments and settle admissions on-line payments/making up deposit to be picked up by the armored carrier for the bank.
The Accounting Clerk III accepts tuition payments in person or by mail; accepts departmental deposits in person or by mail. Looks up student accounts to answer questions from either students or parents. Explains charges, holds or credits to the account. Routes alternative loan checks/private scholarship checks. Notifies the student if a signature is necessary to process the check. Accesses TouchNet for on-line payments; matches ACH or credit cards and totals to PeopleSoft and enters into the DMS system. Enters cash register settlement into the DMS system for each register; ensures deposit back up papers are in envelopes with a CD number. Writes up deposit from the settlements on the cash registers and places in a deposit bag for the armored truck to pick up. Processes chargeback for credit cards or checks from either on-line payments or in person payments; ensures they are written up and given to the adjustment department to chargeback to either the student account or a direct revenue account if that is where the payment was credited.
Handles settlement for Admissions; ensures applications, admit fee for contracts and Grad application deposits are all paid on-line. Retrieves information from Salesforce and TouchNet to be sure they agree and enters information into Access and the DMS system. Answer the telephone during peak periods, payment deadlines, cancellations and rebate disbursements.
High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one year of accounting/clerical experience required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and tuition, fees and due dates. Must be able to read financial aid screens in order to assist students. Experience in Customer Service. Knowledge of credit card processing, debits and credits and some banking/or accounting knowledge preferred.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
Salary and Benefits
