Challenge yourself, your peers and our industry by shaping what health care looks like and doing your life's best work.(sm) The Director / Sr. Director of Innovation reports to the Vice President of Innovation for UnitedHealthcare, directing the innovation initiatives process for UnitedHealthcare, leading cross-functional innovation projects, developing new and actionable insights into growth opportunities/industry/competitive dynamics, innovation ideation/project roadmap construction, socializes initiatives to build advocacy, then leads teams to execute, learn, develop and ultimately scale growth initiatives for UnitedHealthcare. This will include developing our go to market strategy, creating exceptional user experiences, articulating the business value to internal and external shareholders and leading the development of the technology-related component. Additionally, the selected candidate will be responsible for leading the various business-related activities associated with scaling and/or commercializing successful innovation projects.The ideal Director level candidate is a highly motivated, creative, and technically versatile individual with experience designing, developing, and delivering a range of digital products and services, including direct to consumer approaches both within and outside of traditional healthcare models. Additionally this leader will possess a thorough understanding of his / her end users, a passion for human-centered design, a critical eye toward clear visuals and text, significant experience delivering solutions to the marketplace, and the ability to direct the work of multidisciplinary teams. The selected candidate must have deep dive experience with strategy development, business case research, analysis, hypothesis design, research design, and recommendation articulation into executive briefing materials which would then be presented by the Director or others.This role interfaces regularly with the UnitedHealthcare Executive leadership and other leaders across the enterprise, as well as senior leaders from external stakeholders; large and small companies.Primary Responsibilities: Direct innovation initiatives and projects, including managing project teams comprised of peersLead in creation of frameworks and analysis to support growth opportunity and innovation initiative decisions across strategy, economics, and technology needsConduct analysis on topics such as new market opportunities, strategic initiatives, business development, competitive landscape, and cross-business segment opportunities and conceptualize into recommendations Develop presentations and materials for use both internally and externally, including Investor Day and other conferences and forumsCreate build, buy, or partner analysis in support of business case developmentPrepare Executive briefing materials on innovation opportunity domain research, ideation, initiative performance, strategic roadmap logicPartner with business leaders to drive strategy and diversification agendasRepresent UnitedHealthcare in business development conversations with external stakeholdersContinuously monitor and evaluate UnitedHealthcare goals and identify opportunities for improvement
Required Qualifications:Undergraduate degree in business, finance, computer science or other relevant field8+ years of experience influencing multi-disciplinary business units 8+ years of experience leading teams in growth / innovation initiatives 5+ years or more in a leadership role (Manager, Director or VP) A portfolio that demonstrates the ability to strategically create compelling user experiences that factor in business goals, development capabilities, design standards and user needs Demonstrable understanding of most current business model innovations across macro landscapes and be able to find strategic implementations of go to market approaches in new marketsSignificant experience in business development conversations and contract negotiation Strong understanding of interaction design Demonstrated ability to work with and influence stakeholders to determine business strategy in the digital and technical arena as well as develop and execute big ideas, while maintaining collaborative working relationships Ability to make strategic decisions and mitigate risk in order to produce timely, high-quality deliverables Experience in working on multiple projects simultaneously Experience creating conceptual models, site maps, interaction flows, design patterns, and UI specifications Technical fluency -- must be comfortable with current and emerging technology methodologies Demonstrated experience in defining research criteria, leading or participating in user research, and translating user research into design decisions Proven experience in assessing the components needed for the successful growth and scaling of a product and / or service solution, including – financial projections / pro-formas, scaling and operational costs, anticipated resource requirements and alignment to organizational strategy and product portfoliosMust be readily able to work in Minnetonka, MN and travel as dictated by business and customer needsMust be comfortable with ambiguity, pivoting, and high pressure timelines / goalsPreferred Qualifications:Master's Degree in Computer Science, or strategy related programs including MBAProven ability to articulate business strategies and formulate concise solutions to complex problemsIntermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPointFinancial ModelingExperience creating and giving executive presentationsHistory of quickly gaining credibility, partnering with business leaders and exhibiting executive presenceCareers with UnitedHealthcare.
