Helping to lead application design, implement operational best practices, and drive high availability across a multitude of application portfolios, the Principle System Reliability Engineer is a critical component to the success and reliability of both legacy and new micro-service based Applications in the Optum Technology portfolio.Working cross-functionally to inspire success, the Principle System Reliability Engineer is an individual who understands best-in-class concepts in monitoring and observability, application design and architecture, as well as CI/CD and DevOps principles. Individuals with a tendency to think critically, automate complex software processes, and native ability for troubleshooting or predicting failure points will thrive in this role. As a leader in your field, your time will be spent between mentoring other Engineers, both cross functionally throughout Optum and within your direct organization. Your day to day will vary between auditing the capabilities of existing applications to provide guidance on driving higher availability, helping architects design solutions for new systems to ensure high reliability on day one, and instrumenting new monitoring and automation capabilities to help empower application support teams to have the right information, and make the right decisions during critical outages.Primary Responsibilities: Serve as a subject matter expert to internal stakeholders on all aspects of the Site (System) Reliability Engineering disciplineHelp mentor Engineers growing into an SRE role, driving reliability throughout the EnterpriseDrive results through increasing reliability of applications and failover capabilitiesGuide Reliability via Enterprise Transformation, influencing Engineering teams as they work towards maintaining 99.99% reliability targets, and beyond.Build and Instrument new monitoring techniques or toolsDemonstrate integrity and ethical behavior by complying with applicable laws, regulations and policies and requiring the same from othersLeverage diversity and inclusion to bring in the right talent, drive employee engagement and foster teamwork and collaborationGrow and maintain knowledge of and leverage cutting edge IT industry/marketplace technologies and trends
Required Qualifications: 5 or more years of professional development, engineering or IT Support experience3 or more years experience as a Site Reliability Engineer 2 or more years of experience designing and building highly distributed, scalable systemsExperience planning and supporting +99.99% availability against critical applications in productionExperience with DevOps methodologies and enabling Automation within development teamsPreferred Qualifications: Undergraduate Degree or equivalent work experienceExperience leading and Mentoring Junior EngineersHealth Care industry experienceTechnology Careers with Optum.
