Responsible for directing the daily accounting functions for the Seattle Symphony, Symphony Foundation Endowment and Benaroya Hall Music Center. Generate accurate and timely financial reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Supervise the activity of the accounting department including oversight of accounts payable, payroll, and revenue reporting functions. Regularly perform a variety of complex accounting duties requiring initiative and independent judgment. Maintain internal controls and develop new procedures as appropriate to improve accounting operations.
Supervise: 3 Staff Accountants
Essential Job Functions:
Plan the activities of the accounting department & proactively supervise & mentor three accounting staff direct reports
Provide support to the CFO by assisting with projects, presentations and custom financial analysis reports
Support board committees and make presentations at board meetings as required
Report to CFO daily cash activity & monthly cash forecasts; anticipate payments & monitor LOC status
Coordinate inter-entity and inter-departmental accounting transactions & procedures. Ensure that restricted funds are properly categorized and utilized
Responsible for monthly and year-end financial reports for 3 separate entities, including variance analysis, monthly projections & annual consolidated reports
Monitor internal control functions, implement new controls as necessary, and document procedures and update manual regularly
Work in coordination with the Accounting Manager in annual budgeting process
Maintain a calendar of due dates for taxes, licenses, pension reports & other regulatory requirements & ensure all deadlines are met
Coordinate external reporting including industry associations, tax returns, and grant reports
Manage audit preparation & daily interface with audit staff during field work
Communicate effectively with staff throughout the organization. Promote a positive, supportive and customer oriented environment
BA in Accounting or Business; CPA preferred
Minimum 10 years’ experience in accounting with progressive responsibilities and significant supervisory experience
Experience in non-profit, multi-fund accounting or consolidated entities’ processes a plus
Advanced proficiency using Excel and working knowledge of other MS Office products (Word, Outlook and PowerPoint) required. Experience with accounting & financial reporting software, Abila/Sage MIP Fund Accounting Software or similar preferred
Ability to work independently and with accuracy in a high volume, fast paced environment
Willing to work additional hours and some weekends, particularly during annual audit
Working knowledge of GAAP accounting, with non-profit experience preferred
Excellent team-building skills and ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board, or other outside partners
