Lake Forest Country Day School (LFCDS) seeks a new Controller beginning June 1, 2018. LFCDS is a highly regarded, coeducational independent school for students two years of age through eighth-grade in Lake Forest, Illinois. Maintain the general ledger, sub-ledgers and the data supporting the financial statements of the School
Handle monthly closings, prepare and enter journal entries, perform bank reconciliations for investment accounts
Develop and manage the preparation of monthly and yearly financial reports including the YTD actual to budget variance analysis
Develop budget reports with sub-ledgers and distribute to Department and Division Heads
Act as liaison between the School and CPA firm; overseeing, coordinating and preparing for the annual audit
Work with the School’s CPA firm, oversee and prepare information required for the IRS Form 990 and Form 5500 tax returns
Responsible for performing the accounts-payable function
Maintain bank relationships and provide daily monitoring of cash balances in various bank accounts
Perform monthly payroll through ADP and all responsibilities connected with payroll
Monthly staff attendance report
Receive all checks that come into the school by mail or in person and remotely deposit them
Prepare Monthly ST-1 (Sales & Use Tax return)
Responsible for facilitating the 403(b) audit and Workman’s Compensation audit
Lead and facilitate various benchmarking surveys
Monitor and track donor-restricted funds to ensure they are spent in accordance with the donor’s purpose
All IRS & IDR communications
Work closely with the Development Office regarding receipts of donations
Review monthly bank reconciliations done by accounts receivable clerk
Prepare and Review 1099s
Provide financial reports to Director of Finance and Operations as needed
Prepare Annual Industrial Appraisal Report
All duties assigned by management
Bachelor’s degree with seven years accounting experience
Five years of experience with not-for-profit accounting and FASB standards. CPA preferred
Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge and Excel is preferred
Analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven record of sound judgment
Ability to work both independently and as a part of a high functioning team
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to multitask and prioritize work
