Associate Director of Individual Giving and Special Events
Reports to CEO
Gads Hill Center, a social service organization established in 1898, creates opportunities for children and their families to build a better life through education, access to resources, and community engagement.
This position reports to the CEO. The Associate Director of Individual Giving and Special Events is responsible for creating and managing a strategic fundraising plan to cultivate and solicit support from individual donors. In collaboration with the CEO, this individual will develop the goals and strategies for high-quality donor cultivation and stewardship, and then manage the execution of these activities. This individual will ensure high-quality and consistent engagement is occurring for all individual donors and prospects. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence, innovation, teamwork, and sustainable growth.
Develops the plans and activities to ensure individual donors are engaged year-round, educated about Gads Hill Center, and informed about the impact they are making annually.
In partnership with the CEO, devises strategies to grow the base of individual donors and develop the plans and activities to cultivate prospects.
Supports the Associate Director of Development and Communications to refine and build upon GHC’s major gifts program to attract 5, 6, and 7-figure gifts from high-net-worth individuals and families.
Manages and grow Gads Hill Center’s network of young professionals through effective execution of the annual plan.
Oversees and implement annual appeals.
Collaborates with Development and Program staff to craft mailed and/or e-mailed communications
Conducts donor research and qualify new individuals for appropriate cultivation efforts.
Supports and prepares CEO and Associate Director of Development and Communications to engage with donors/prospects and manage/prepare timely follow-up from these interactions.
Prepares proposals for gift solicitation and individual stewardship plans for top individual donors.
Utilizes Donor Perfect to manage all donors, interactions and activities, and to track progress toward goals.
Oversees planning, fundraising, event leadership, and logistics for all Gads Hill Center special events, including the annual spring Gala, the Golf Outing, and the Young Professionals Board Fundraising events.
Manages special events Committees made up of Board members and other key stakeholders.
Works directly with external event vendors to coordinate efforts and logistics.
Oversees strategy for event promotion.
Oversees solicitation of auction items and leads all night-of fundraising efforts.
With the Board special event Committees, supports the direct solicitation of sponsorships and ticket sales.
Plans and executes 3-5 donor events each year to attract, cultivate, and steward individual donors.
Supports other fundraising and program events throughout the year.
Serves as staff support for the Board Development and special events Committees in collaboration and cooperation with the CEO.
Attends quarterly Board meetings.
Supports the donor engagement efforts of the CEO with individual donors.
Contributes to the overall goals of the Development Department by working collaboratively with colleagues on the creation and execution of the annual fundraising plan.
Supervises Development Coordinator and department interns (if any).
Represents Gads Hill Center at external events.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
This position requires a bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 3-4 years of related experience in individual giving. Work authorization required.
Previous fundraising and event planning experience.
Exceptional strategic and critical thinking skills.
Strong relationship-builder with a keen understanding of the context and motivations of others.
A strong communicator – both oral and written – with ability to tailor tone and key messages based on audience.
Highly-organized with demonstrated ability to build and execute strong plans.
Track record of exhibiting strong initiative and ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve goals.
Flexibility to adapt based on the needs of a fast-paced organization.
Demonstrated commitment to Gads Hill Center’s mission and core values.
Able to work with ethnically, culturally, and socially diverse families, staff, Board members, and other constituencies.
Familiarity with Chicago funding communities is a plus.
Familiarity with Donor Perfect is a plus.
Must be able to work some evening and weekend hours.
Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.
Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.
Exceptional attention to details and deadlines.
Excellent computer fluency and analytical skills.
Ability to pass a criminal background check and child abuse/neglect registry check.
