Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics
University of Cincinnati
The University of Cincinnati, College of Engineering and Applied Science invites applications for a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. This is a full-time staff position with teaching and research duties in the area of aerospace engineering.
Conduct experimental aerospace engineering research for combustion, fluid dynamics, and propulsion applications.
Research includes the following:
Combustion testing in ambient/pressurized combustion and augmentor facilities.
Active combustion control in gas turbine augmentors.
Aeroacoustics and impedance measurements.
Fluid dynamics studies of water/oil flows.
Design and develop new combustion rigs and updates to current ones.
Write data acquisition and processing programs in Matlab, LabVIEW and Diadem.
Coordinate concurrent experimental and Combustion and Fluid Dynamics (CFD) efforts for model validation.
Coordinating project activities with industry partners. Projects include numerical and physical research in fluid dynamics, propulsion and noise and range from short-term experiments in current facilities to long-term projects which require significant design and development activities.Serve as author and reviewer of technical reports/papers based on research produced in the laboratory.
Present research findings from lab at team meetings with industry partners and at conferences.
Supervise and provide technical direction across the experimental research process to four graduate and undergraduate students, from test setup through data analysis and publication of results.
Teach in the areas of propulsion, controls and other engineering fundamentals, such as thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, probability and statistics, control systems and system dynamics.
Will utilize the following techniques:
Particle image velocimetry (PIV).
Laser induced fluorescence (LIF).
Chemiluminescence data acquisition and analysis for reacting flows.
Emissions and species concentration measurements.
Pressure oscillation and acoustics measurements.
PhD in Aerospace Engineering prior to effective date of appointment. Also required is an academic research background in experimental research techniques for combustion and fluid dynamics.
