The Violence Prevention Coordinator works with the staff of the UMKC Violence Prevention and Response Program, in collaboration with the Office of Affirmative Action, the Women's Center, and other UMKC offices and community organizations to assist with the coordination of the Violence Prevention and Response Program (VPR) efforts at UMKC. The mission of the Violence Prevention and Response Program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City is to strengthen the University and community response to gender-based and sexual violence through victim support services, advocacy, training, education and outreach to the campus and community.
UMKC's Violence Prevention Coordinator is responsible for implementing awareness campaigns, programming, training, and outreach related to issues of sexual assault, domestic/relationship violence, stalking, and other forms of gender-based violence for the UMKC campus community.
Design and implement violence prevention and awareness programming (including events such as Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, the V-Day College Campaign, and Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Months) for students, faculty, staff and community members;
Serve as a resource and provide consultation and training´s to the university community regarding issues of sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and other forms of interpersonal violence;
Assist in the coordination of the Violence Prevention & Response Program's social media efforts (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, bloc, etc.);
Assist in developing and implementation on- and off- campus outreach and marketing efforts;
Provide program assessment as needed;
Provide backup advocacy/support to victims of sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and other forms of interpersonal violence. Provide referrals to long-term counseling as needed;
Represent the Violence Prevention and Response Program on University and community committees as assigned;
Other duties as assigned;
Evening and weekend hours, and some travel may be required.
