The University of Washington International Student Services (ISS) office has an outstanding opportunity for a Post-Completion Training Coordinator. ISS, a unit within the Enrollment Management, supports the Provost as well as the University of Washington community.
ISS serves over 8,000 undergraduate, graduate, professional, and exchange international students in F-1 and J-1 status. These students contribute to the institution's academic and research objectives and enhance the rich diversity and global character of the university.
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director for International Student Services and as part of a student services team, the Post-Completion Training Coordinator advises international students on the benefits and procedures for post-completion training opportunities and promotes the values of international educational exchange.
Responsible for the oversight and management of post-completion SEVIS related activities, including Optional Practical Training (OPT) reporting and data integrity.
Advise international students on regulations and University policies related to their nonimmigrant visa status post-completion training benefits
Process Optional Practical Training (OPT) applications.
Assist international students to maintain legal nonimmigrant status while on post-completion training
Answer inquiries about post-completion training by phone, email, and in-person. Compose and distribute informational e-newsletters. Create and maintain informational workshops.
Serve as the primary liaison with ISS and campus partners for post-completion training.
Compile, maintain, and publish annual ISS statistics and reports.
Monitor developments in F-1 and J-1 regulations and coordinate with other ISS staff to update and communicate changes
Provide interface between international students and Washington State and U. S. federal agencies
Maintain relevant records in the ISSM, SEVIS, and UW student databases
Conduct ISS outreach, seminars, and training programs for the University and broader community, including academic advisors and career centers
Provide updates and recommendations on technical specifications or support needed for upcoming SEVIS releases relating to post-completion training. Establish and implement best practices for information systems and business procedures for post-completion training applications.
Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) to issue appropriate immigration documents
Review, create, and help maintain web content and other informational materials
Work as a team with other International Student Services staff to ensure office consistency
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in International Education, Student Services, or comparable field of study
Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in international student advising or student services
Ability to organize data, conduct research, and communicate technical details to users
Superior analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions
Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work within a team and with a diverse student population.
Ability to work under pressure, managing multiple deadlines simultaneously
Strong organizational skills and careful attention to detail
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
4-5 years of experience as an International Student Advisor at a college or university.
Experience as a SEVIS approved Designated School Official or Alternate Responsible Officer.
Understanding of and experience using ISSM and the SEVIS information system.
