JISAO has an outstanding opportunity for a Fiscal Specialist 2. Under general supervision, perform fiscal and administrative support functions for the Joint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere & Ocean (JISAO) coordinating purchasing functions and expenditure control; assisting in maintaining a comprehensive system for recording fiscal activity; and, assisting in numerous key administrative functions. Incumbents use established procedures in recording, summarizing and reporting fiscal activity.
This fiscal specialist position will provide key administrative support to the JISAO staff in the area of financial and business operations, and will perform such functions as record keeping, travel and purchasing, HR assistance, equipment inventory and other types of fiscal operations, as well as some general administrative functions.
Under general supervision, perform fiscal and administrative support functions for the Joint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere & Ocean (JISAO) coordinating purchasing functions and expenditure control; assisting in maintaining a comprehensive system for recording fiscal activity; and, assisting in numerous key administrative functions. Incumbents use established procedures in recording, summarizing and reporting fiscal activity.
Act as the purchasing agent on transactions, maintaining purchasing records and resolving problems and ensuring compliance with departmental, institutional, state and/or granting agency policies, rules and regulations. This includes eReimbursements in the Ariba system.
Assist in the preparation of fiscal reports such as year-end reports, budgetary reports, and auditing reports.
Develop and maintain a record keeping system for recording expense transactions and reconcile grant budgets.
Assist with HR-related tasks, supporting assistant director in the hiring process, visa requests, filing, etc.
Assist in the maintenance and processing of travel expense records, as backup to the travel coordinator.
Assist in the processing of grant proposals by gathering and entering data in the UW's SAGE system and sponsor websites.
Provide intermittent assistance to education & outreach coordinator in such areas as collection and tracking of intern applications.
Perform related duties as required.

Two years of experience at a level equivalent to Fiscal Specialist I AND 15 quarter hours or 10 semester hours of college level accounting, or equivalent education/experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
Experience at the University of Washington, using administrative systems such as MyFD and Ariba.
Experience and proficiency with Excel, Adobe Acrobat and MS Word (may be asked to take a test in Excel)
Proficiency with eTravel, eReimbursement and other eProcurement functions, or similar procurement systems. Proficiency with My Financial Desktop and knowledge of UW policies for purchasing, travel and reimbursements, or experience with similar accounting practices and policies.
Effective interpersonal skills to interact with diverse groups in a team environment.
Strong mathematical abilities, good attention to detail, and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Financial experience in a University or research setting.
Ability and experience in working professionally with faculty, research scientists, staff, and students
Experience with Workday
