UC Berkeley Extension is one of the largest and oldest continuing education operations thriving in the United States, with 2,000 professional development and personal enrichment classes and approximately 38,000 enrollments annually. In its role providing marketing services for certificate programs, Extension is seeking an enrollment advisor. The role works closely with a team of enrollment advisors to cultivate exceptional candidates for a mix of different programs from initial inquiry through application submission or initial registration. The ideal candidate will move seamlessly between providing high-level coaching and extremely technical guidance on application guidelines.
•Provides substantive information on admissions requirements, school/college programs and curricula, financial aid, etc. and advises/guides prospective students through decision-making and application processes -Positions the program through phone, email, web and in-person interactions, communicating its value to target audiences, promoting the Berkeley brand and the Berkeley concept of online learning. -Following a standard communications model, proactively discovers needs of prospective students and advises/guides on the program, curriculum, fees, admissions requirements, application procedures, financial aid availability, etc. -Is proactive in identifying potential barriers within the student enrollment process and initiates steps resulting in resolution. -Supports communications with others participating in the recruitment and admissions process and refers prospective students to other parties as necessary. -Uses professional knowledge and perspective to relate to prospective students to establish professional rapport and add to the student experience. -Secures registrations from prospective students to reach planned enrollment each term. -Maintains an active caseload of prospective students.
•Provides information about higher education generally and UC Berkeley specifically one-on-one and to groups. Works with supervisor to develop communication strategy for recruitment -Works with information from the university and other stakeholders, as well as information gathered on competitors, to develop communication strategy for recruitment. -Implements promotional plans and recommends potential approaches and media strategies. -Formulates weekly outreach activities; prioritizes daily tasks based on recruiting timeline and prospective student stages
•Communicates and exchanges information between students and units on campus and makes referrals to help students with their academic program for the purpose of maximizing learning effectiveness, student success and retention. -Enables student access to information, training and student services in support of learning effectiveness and student success. -Coordinates, implements and conducts trainings, orientations and other information-sharing in support of student success. -Serves as liaison between students and student support, including library, technology support, career services, campus policies and procedures and other resources, to maximize student satisfaction and retention. -Assesses and anticipates students' problems and needs, refers students to appropriate student support across campus, and conducts follow-up. -Evaluates services to determine impact on enrollment and retention and assists with development of new and refined strategies for maximizing retention.
•Gathers and analyzes data; prepares reports of operational activities, evaluation of services, etc. -Maintains an updated database of prospective students, collecting data to determine their needs, and managing and tracking them through the pipeline. -Pull data reports to help supervisor assess recruitment progress, adjust communication strategies and forecast yield.•Knowledge and experience working with diverse student populations, especially midcareer professionals pursuing certificates to advance or enhance their careers. •Customer service or advising experience in an educational environment entailing one on one interaction is highly preferred but not required. •Desire to help students achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals. •Working knowledge of UC Berkeley Extension and the higher education market is preferred but not required. •Working knowledge of Extension's certificate programs, including competitors, curricula, admissions requirements, financing, etc. •Working knowledge of recruitment and student services for adult learners. •Working knowledge of developing recruitments strategies preferred. •Superior communication and listening skills in print, web and email and over the phone and in-person. •Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with administrators, schools, universities, community organizations and other institutions. •The ability to interpret policies and procedures to prospective applicants and the public. •Ability to screen and evaluate a program's overall fit for student's goals. •Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of communication models and recommend alternatives or refinement. •Ability to conduct trainings and provide guidance to students, in-person, over the phone and in writing. •Ability to serve as a liaison between prospective and current students, representatives from partner academic units and Extension administrative staff. •Ability to assess and anticipate students’ needs. •Working knowledge of customer relationship management systems. •Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training This is a 2-year contract position
