<p><strong>25% Team Lead</strong><br />• Hire, coach and act as a positive role model for the CTFS Post-Award/Accounting team and the CTFS department.<br />• Assign work and provide work direction for 3-4 Accounting team members. Provide team leadership by meeting regularly with employees. Set priorities, foster employee development and provide positive and improvement feedback.<br />• Train new accountants; develop job aids and document procedures. Set team goals, create and track individual and team performance metrics and conduct performance appraisals. <br />• Contribute to a best place to work environment.<br /><br /><strong>60% Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of clinical trial financial reporting to service units, Principal Investigators and their study teams. </strong><br />• Establish CTFS Post-Award as an innovative, nimble, proactive and responsive partner.<br />• Financial expert for clinical trial reporting and analysis focusing on business and industry sponsored clinical trials. Provide guidance and problem solving support to the team.</p><p><strong>CTFS Post-Award team for unique or complex situations.</strong><br />• Create summary reports for one or more Academic Health Center service units and meet with service unit administrators every month to review study balances. Analyze month-to-month variances in study balances and monitor trends. Work with Service Unit partners and the CTFS Pre-Award team to develop plans to address study deficits.<br />• Monitor accounts receivable and payable.<br />• Perform accounting / reporting for a few select, complex clinical trials and cover reporting during temporary openings or absences.<br />• In partnership with the CTFS director, process residual distributions at the end of clinical trials, manage semi-annual internal cost recovery distributions and project internal cost recovery revenue.<br />• Develop and implement procedures to ensure reporting accuracy and consistency across the Post-Award team. <br />• Review a sample of reports each month to ensure accuracy. Periodically, meet with accountants and study coordinators to review contract terms and ensure recognition of all revenue due to the University.<br />• Collaborate with the CTFS Pre-Award team to transition new trials to the Post-Award accounting team and implement changes due to amendments.<br />• Maintain the Post-Award database in Access.<br />• Develop effective working relationships with clinical trial co-coordinators and investigators, external business partners (Fairview and University of Minnesota Physicians) and other business partners across the U of MN Academic Health Center.<br />• Analyze the impact of changes to financial reports and proactively communicate impacts to Investigators and study teams.<br /><br /><strong>5% Perform certified approver duties for the department</strong><br />• Approve transactions and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures. </p><p><strong>10% Lead and implement process improvements</strong><br />• Serve as a liaison to University departments managing clinical trials locally (outside of CTFS) that want to leverage CTFS developed tools, templates and processes for the benefit of all. Plan and facilitate meetings with accountants or peers in other service units across the Academic Health Center to share best practices for clinical trial reporting. <br />• Work with the CTFS OnCore financial specialist to develop new tools and processes to improve reporting speed and accuracy.<br />• Contribute to the success of the new Clinical Trial Research Support Center by fostering positive working relationships across teams.<br />• Determine satisfaction with CTFS reporting and implement improvements.<br />• Improve documentation of unique clinical trial characteristics to facilitate study transfer.<br />• Perform ad-hoc reporting and analysis.</p>
<p><strong>All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. </strong></p><p><strong>Required Qualifications:</strong><br />• Bachelor’s degree in accounting and at least 5 years’ experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal nine years.<br />• Prior financial reporting and analysis experience.<br />• Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships including relationships with Principal Investigators (PIs) and study teams, external business partners and peers across the Academic Health Center.<br />• Demonstrated strong client-service orientation. <br />• Experience/proficiency with excel (including pivot tables, linking spreadsheets).<br />• Demonstrated ability to interpret, present and analyze information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and in financial reports.<br />• Experience with project accounting.<br />• Demonstrated strong organization skills with demonstrated ability to use good judgement in prioritizing requests.<br />• Demonstrated ability to meet monthly reporting deadlines.<br /><br /><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong><br />• 3-5 years supervisory / team leader experience.<br />• Certified approver or willingness to obtain within six months.<br />• Experience with University of Minnesota financial management information systems and/or clinical trial management systems and familiarity with University of Minnesota financial policies and procedures.<br />• Microsoft Access experience.<br />• Clinical trial knowledge or experience.<br />• Experience with sponsored research accounting.</p>
