About Inland Valley Humane Society & SPCA (IVHS & SPCA):
Established in 1949, the Inland Valley Humane Society & S.P.C.A. is a private, non-profit, full-access animal shelter dedicated to providing a safe refuge for animals in our community (s). The objectives and purposes of the Inland Valley Humane Society & SPCA are:
To provide a safe refuge for all sick, injured, abused, and abandoned animals that have no other alternatives. To lead the community in finding homes for all adoptable pets. To foster compassion for all living things through education and outreach. To promote the health and wellness of all pets in our community by providing accessible and affordable veterinary care. To reduce pet overpopulation through spay/neuter programs. To prevent cruelty by advocating and enforcing animal protection laws.
We are seeking a professional Major Gifts Officer with recent experience who is passionate about the health and wellbeing of all animals in our communities. This position reports to the Director of Development and is responsible for developing a Major Gift program for IVHS &SPCA by identifying, cultivating, soliciting and growing major gift and planned giving donors. Initially these efforts will be in conjunction with the capital campaign but ultimately move toward future initiatives and annual operating support. This newly created position will work closely with major donors, prospects, campaign volunteers, the Board of Directors and executive staff to create the strongest and most effective prospect list and work collaboratively to execute proper moves management strategies to secure major gift support.
Identify and manage a portfolio of qualified major and planned giving donors and prospects to ensure positive and purposeful relationship development; set and carry out solicitation strategies, including Planned Giving. Major gifts defined as five figures or more
Maintain and build a portfolio of approximately 75-100 donor prospects for major and planned gifts
Partner with the President/CEO and Director of Development on the development of strategic initiatives and on execution of strategies toward effective major gift cultivation and solicitation
Development of case for support documents, collateral and other request materials
Partner with staff and volunteers in identification, advocacy, introduction, cultivation and solicitation toward securing major gift support
Ensure a customized and comprehensive moves management plan is created and implemented for every major and planned giving donor and prospects
Utilize IVHS & SPCA reports and strategic deliverables and tactics to facilitate moves management of prospects and to achieve goals
Meeting specific activity, request and fundraising targets agreed upon by candidate and executive staff. (e.g. – spending 75% of time visiting with existing and newly identified major/planned donor prospects; making at least 25 two-way interactions and at least four asks per month).
Articulate the case for support, through oral and written means, so that donors engage and support the mission and vision of IVHS &SPCA
Steward donors who have given -- or show an interest in giving – to specific projects by designing strategies to retain their interest
Provides annual assessment of high impact board members, and volunteers; alert to any/all successes and challenging areas
Provide reports regarding the outcome of cultivation and solicitation actions; that track activity.

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
Five plus years in non-profit fundraising with progressive growth and some emphasis on major gifts
Highest integrity and a sense of personal/professional ethics
Excellent written and oral communication skills

Volunteer engagement experience necessary
Successful solicitation of major and planned gifts at the five figure level and above; successful planned giving solicitation including bequests, trusts and working with financial planners
Ability to work with high impact volunteers, board members, ambassadors and executive level staff;
Ability to formulate creative strategies for major gifts and planned giving advancement
High degree of initiative and ability to motivate and engage high level volunteers and donors
Confident self-starter who can call on and engage high net worth prospects
Ability to work independently and as a team player
Excellent time management and prioritization skills, strong attention to detail
Extensive knowledge of major and planned giving vehicles
Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate effectively and professionally with executive staff and board members and to build productive relationships with major gifts prospects
Motivated self-starter with the ability to remain focused on completing assignments
Experienced with Word, Excel, and Raiser’s Edge donor software
Experienced with planned giving software helpful (Crescendo)
Capital campaign experience preferred.

Salary commensurate with experience, a benefits package will be provided. This is a full-time position.
