The Department of Recreation Management & Physical Education (RMPE) in the Beaver College of Health Sciences (BCHS) at Appalachian State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Recreation Management (RM) program to begin August 2018. Responsibilities include teaching and mentoring students, participating in university and professional service, conducting quality research and collaborating with university and community stakeholders to support interprofessional student engagement activities.
Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate from an accredited university in Parks, Recreation or Tourism Management (PRTM), Leisure Studies or a closely related field with at least one degree in PRTM and/or Leisure Studies is required. ABD candidates will be considered, pending successful completion of degree requirements by position start date. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion to improve access to higher education for under-represented groups. Desirable candidates could provide evidence of experience and/or expertise in, but not limited to, each of the following areas: • Teaching in PRTM/Leisure Administration/Management • Professional field experience in PRTM Field (Tourism, Recreational Sport & etc.) • Scholarly productivity and professional service
The Department of RMPE is comprised of Recreation Management; Health, Physical Education, & Coaching; and Physical Education Activity programs. The Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Management (RM) program has been continuously accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions (COAPRT) since 1996, and includes concentrations in Commercial Recreation and Tourism Management, Recreation and Park Management, and Outdoor Experiential Education. The BCHS is the newest and second largest college at Appalachian State University, with over 3,400 undergraduate and graduate students served by 150 faculty and staff.
