The UCSC Genome Browser is host to the human genome and is used by researchers, scientists, and clinicians around the world. Since its initial release in July 2000, the Genome Browser has grown to include a broad collection of vertebrate and model organism assemblies and annotations, along with a large suite of tools for viewing, analyzing and downloading data.
The Genomics Institute at UCSC creates advanced technologies and open-source genomics platforms to unravel evolutionary patterns, molecular processes and the underpinnings of disease. Their platforms, technologies and scientists unite global communities to create and deploy data-driven, life-saving treatments and innovative environmental and conservation efforts. The institute openly and responsibly shares what is learned and created and is dedicated to creating a healthier world.
The incumbent will provide leadership and vision for planning, development, implementation, maintenance and documentation of the Genomics Institute's extensive computing resources. Provides advanced technical direction for systems integrity, recoverability, monitoring and controls. Responsible for managing performance, reliability and seamless integration of various subsystems including operating systems, databases, data communications, networks, monitoring software, computing clusters, public and private cloud infrastructures and high throughput data storage. Also, receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction to staff according to established policies and management guidance. Administers policies that directly affect subordinate staff. Recommends changes to department policies and practices. Identifies risks and responds accordingly. Provide priority setting and workflow analysis. In smaller groups, functions as a working member of the technical team.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience with an emphasis in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, or in a related field.
In-depth knowledge of how to apply technologies and systems to meet business needs.
Advanced knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
General knowledge of other areas of IT.
Advanced knowledge, skills and abilities associated with system problem identification and resolution.
