The University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) is seeking a Development Associate II for our Office of Institutional Advancement. The Development Associate independently plans, organizes, and implements key events and activities related to donor and alumni relations. This individual collaborates with development leadership by providing data for developing long-term strategy for prospect identification and development. This position will also develop and oversee stewardship processes to ensure appropriate and accurate recording, acknowledgement, recognition, and allocation of gifts. The Development Associate responds to special needs and requests of donors .

Represents the school or campus in person and by phone.
Responds to donor inquiries. May be responsible for follow up calls regarding pledges.
Serves as an advocate within the University for donors, alumni and friends.
Prepares fundraising and special events brochures, letters and other literature.
Prepares regular reports on donor trends, participation rates and the like.
Researches and reports on potential funding sources.
Involved in gift processing and day-to-day support activities.
Manages the production of acknowledgment letters to all donors.
Ensures all donors to the University are appropriately thanked in a timely and meaningful way.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's in a related field required.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in development or related field. Experience working within a university or a non-profit development or advancement organization strongly preferred. Experience working in donor relations, donor stewardship, within a development or advancement environment is preferred. An understanding of endowment funds and the awarding process for student scholarships is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately in written and oral communications. Excellent writing skills are essential. Must have professional interpersonal and customer relations skills and the ability to work well with a diverse range of audiences and constituencies. Experience in development. Must understand the importance of building life-long relationships between the University and its alumni and friends. Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines and pay attention to details and accuracy. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office. An understanding of database segmentation, prospect identification and professional fundraising experience strongly preferred. Must be a highly resourceful team-player with the ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion. Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response. Must have strong organizational and time management skills focused on planning, implementation and collaboration.
