GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the general supervision and direction of the Director of Information Technology Solutions, and following prescribed department, office and firm procedures, the Applications Development Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising all activities related to the design and development of new software applications, and implementation, integration and/or customization of commercial off-the-shelf software applications in support of the firm’s business needs. The Applications Development Manager is expected to have a hands-on software development role and serve as a liaison, mentor with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s business services, practices and clients, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the Application Development Manager must fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner which is consistent with the Firm’s Core Values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties are performed throughout every work day, as necessary):
Manage the development and deployment of new applications, systems software, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the life cycle of the application, while maintaining consistency and uniformity.
Ensure development projects meet business requirements and objectives, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve system issues.
Ensure that the Applications Development team follows the firm standard System Development Life Cycle “SDLC” as well as industry best practices.
Manage and document application integration interfaces between inter-dependant business applications.
Engineer and unit-test new applications and application changes to confirm that they meet the firm’s technology standards and do not conflict with existing applications or services.
Manage and oversee successful testing, implementation, and transition of solutions to production.
Ensure that the development, packaging and engineering of applications are delivered in working order to the Desktop Engineering team. Provide and maintain documentation and release notes for deployment of each application developed.
Oversee the day-to-day maintenance of a defined set of developed applications within the firm to ensure 24 X 7 availability, providing user access to the associated data through the application design.
Oversee compliance of applications with firm security guidelines, with unfailing commitment to securing client and employee data.
Research and recommend software products and services that support the operational goals of the Applications Development Team.
Set priorities, coordinate and participate in the daily workflow for the department, ensuring quality of work and timely completion of assignments during regular business hours and on an overtime/weekend staffing basis. This includes responsibility for all aspects of daily application development management tasks.
Monitor department productivity; develop and implement procedures to optimize effectiveness; ensure that space, equipment and technology are used effectively.
Oversee departmental personnel and monitor attendance and performance issues; conduct conferences with departmental staff regarding such issues, as needed.
Serve as mentor to departmental staff and assist in staff development; implement standards of excellence and customer service; and with the guidance of the Director of Applications Administration or designee, provide departmental staff with an understanding of future expectations and initiate changes needed to meet them.
Identify, and work with senior management to acquire resources needed to complete projects.
Communicate status and key business information effectively to both management and internal customers.
Serve as 3rd level help desk support for areas of technology assigned.
