Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Partial Hospital Program – Adult Services at Rutgers, University Behavioral Health Care.
The primary purpose is to provide direct care, wellness counseling, perform treatments and proceed within established guidelines. Facilitate appointments and liaison with Primary Care Providers.
Observes and monitors consumer status and safety; delivers physiologic and interpersonal care according to standards consistent with the multidisciplinary treatment plan, nursing care directives, and expected outcomes; observes and maintains safety, comfort and aesthetics of the unit milieu.
Demonstrates knowledge of consumer's individualized treatment, goals, physical health and nursing care directives.
Assists in the preparation of consumers for evaluative and diagnostic studies.
Facilitates participation in scheduled therapeutic activities and helps consumers to plan and structure both scheduled and leisure time.
Monitors and reports physical condition, including weight, temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure as required.
Participates in the multidisciplinary treatment planning team.
Observes, reports and documents consumer progress in relation to specific aspects of treatment planning goals and related nursing care directives.
Assures consumers receive and have access to appropriate medications.
Prepares and administers routine medications according to procedure as ordered.
Accepts flexible arrangement of assignments when necessary, for optimal distribution and utilization of staff to assure quality consumer care.
Performs clerical duties as part of the nursing team, transcribes orders, enters data into the computer and completes chart checks as assigned.
Facilitates consumer and physician completion of appropriate forms in order to access alternative benefits (disability, housing, etc.).
Demonstrates professionalism, accountability and attainment of individualized performance goals.
Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Possession of a valid registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated, strong clinical nursing specialty.
Excellent communication skills and leadership abilities.
Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Minimum of one year experience providing medical services to mental health consumers.
Community based experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: Lift, position, transfer or transport consumers; lift supplies and equipment (heavy physical effort). Requires manual dexterity and mobility. Work with potentially aggressive individuals; physically intervene in aggressive behaviors. Care for consumers with infectious diseases. Contact with consumers under a wide variety of circumstances. Handle emergency or crisis situations; may perform emergency care. Requires judgment/action which could result in death of a consumer. Participates in manpower pool. Requires sufficient stamina to be able to rotate shifts and remain alert on the night shift. Requires remaining with assignment until relieved. Uses computer to enter and retrieve information. Requires reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling.
Work Environment: Occasional exposure to unpleasant consumer elements. Exposure to wetness in consumer areas (tub, shower room). On occasion, escorts consumer off the ground. Requires reporting to work in spite of inclement weather and other external events. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Occasionally asked to transport consumers or accomplish errands in the hospital vehicle, after receiving Approved Driver status. Must agree to record searches in accord with New Jersey statute.
This position is part-time (20 hours/week).
Work schedule to include evenings, weekends and holidays.
