At Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK), we're not only changing the way we treat cancer, but also the way the world thinks about it. By working together and pushing forward with innovation and discovery, we're driving excellence and improving outcomes.
For the 27th year, MSK has been named a top hospital for cancer by U.S. News & World Report. We are proud to be on Becker's Healthcare list as one of the 150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare in 2016, as well as Glassdoor's annual Employees' Choice Awards 2017. We're treating cancer, one patient at a time. Join us and make a difference every day.
As a Research Technician you will perform research activities in collaboration with internal/external personnel to complete science-based projects. You will normally receive detailed instructions while making observations, analyzing data and interpreting results according to laboratory procedures. The Research Technician will provide support to graduate student/postdoc working on post-transcriptional regulatory pathways in Drosophila and/or cell culture models.
Prepare laboratory equipment, instruments, solutions, stains, assays and other supplies as instructed for research experiments.
Operate lab equipment such as centrifuges, pH meters, analytical balancers, scintillation counters, spectrophotometers, light microscopes and other equipment as instructed. Maintains lab equipment.
Clone of constructs for analysis in cell culture and Drosophila transgenesis, using PCR or ligation free assembly; epitope tagging and site-directed mutagenesis.
Nucleic acid extractions (DNA and RNA) for genotyping and gene expression (qPCR) analysis. With experience, potentially generation of RNA-seq libraries for next-generation sequencing analysis.
Cell culture and sterile technique to conduct transient transfection experiments and/or construct stable cell lines.
Drosophila genetics to maintain stocks, collect virgin animals and set crosses. With experience, potentially to generate recombinant genotypes, generate transgenic animals, and use CRISPR/Cas9 to generate custom mutants and engineered genotypes.
Perform necessary analysis and calculations, records data and writes reports on research findings. Attention to detail, strong organization skills, high motivation to learn new scientific techniques and to work as an integral and responsible member of a team. Ability to multitask and motivation to be in the laboratory as necessary to get the job done and make discoveries.
Bachelors Degree in Life Sciences (Biology or Biochemistry) with strong laboratory experience in molecular biology, and knowledge of genetics.
