Milwaukee Children's Choir (MCC) seeks a dynamic, motivated, mission driven person to fill its full time salaried Director of Development position. This Director is responsible to grow, manage and steward all aspects of development activities including fundraising campaigns & events as well as foundation, corporate and government grants and relationships. Executing a comprehensive strategy of financial development and support, the Director of Development represents MCC to the philanthropic community, coordinates solicitation efforts between Board, volunteers and staff, and the community. The Director manages the portfolio of new & existing donors to reach the annual revenue targets set by the Board of Directors and will serve as the main point of contact for the donors to help deepen their relationship and increase their support for MCC.

Annual Operational Fundraising I. Annual Campaign
Formulate an annual campaign theme & written execution plan each Spring for the upcoming fiscal year
Coordinate all steps of execution, including: team planning meeting, up to four written solicitations, coordination of graphics, printing or emailing of content, preparation & mail merging of targets
Manage all received donations on database, inputting data minimally biweekly, and establish a cycle & tracking mechanism to ensure donors are receive written acknowledgment
Track & report monthly YTD compared to last YTD via monthly board report
II.Fundraising: Products & Events A. Planning
Facilitate fundraising planning meeting each May to debrief on previous season fundraisers and to analyze options for upcoming season
After soliciting team input, design, and implement a dynamic schedule of fundraising events & product sales that meets the needs of a diverse community and supports the annual budget
Develop fundraising calendar to be presented for final approval to the board of directors in June for the upcoming school year. Coordinate communication of fundraising calendar to MCC families, staff, & board in August
B. Execution & Management of Fundraising Events
Plan & manage office event software, set up & take down of check in/check out, signage, etc for annual Gala in May
Lead team for any additional fundraising activities as developed, establishing roles & responsibilities
Maintain board relations and volunteer support necessary to ensure successful events
Ensure proper licenses (such as raffle, food, or liquor licenses) are obtained for events as needed
At the end of each event, facilitate database reconciliation, thank you’s to donors, and debrief process/initial planning for upcoming year
Prepare a brief informal report to board via email at the close of each event on targets & outcomes with a full event summary report at board meeting following each event
Send invitation to all event sponsors to donor cultivation events
III. Donor Cultivation A. Foundations- Grants
Facilitate an annual development plan, each Spring, in collaboration with the EAD and Board to identify and research current and new, local and national funding sources
Analyze & Maintain grant files, both electronically & hard copy files including overall history grid
?Develop & maintain a calendar of foundation/grant deadlines and be responsible for timely preparation and writing of letters of intent, grant applications, status reports and final reports
Ensure appropriate recognition, compliance, and reporting for corporate, foundation, and government donors
Cultivate and maintain personal contacts with grant administrators at corporations, private foundations, and UPAF, minimum of 1 face to face interaction for each, outside of the application cycle
Provide accurate and timely recording of all corporate and foundation grants, and maintain appropriate records & provide status reports to board monthly
B. Corporate & Sponsorship
Annual review of sponsorship packages and recommendations for revisions at the start of each fiscal year AUG board meeting
Meeting with EAD to establish corporate sponsor goals & budget as part of each annual budget process
Develop plan to implement, strategize approach to cultivate current sponsors & solicit new ones
Regular review through season of current corporate sponsors-compiling & communicating proof of performance materials for sponsorships
C. Long Term Donor Management 1. Endowment
Work with Executive Artistic Director to develop and expand the MCC Endowment, separate from planned giving. Endowment growth goals percentage determined by the Executive Artistic Director prior to the beginning of every fiscal year
2. Donor Cultivation
Manage portfolio of current and prospective donors. Personally steward, solicit and thank donors
Implement programs/activities to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors targeted at the $1,000 level or higher with an emphasis on maximizing revenue
UPAF liaison: Serve as primary liaison with UPAF. Manage deadlines for various requirements of grant, lead UPAF solicitation process each February & follow closely with board & staff to ensure donor solicitation & WPG campaigns are maximized. Lead preparation meetings & solicit attendees for UPAF allocation meetings. Facilitate UPAF Ride for the Arts team each June establishing a team & volunteer station/support
Facilitates minimum of 2 donor cultivation events annually
Administrative Management of Development A. Development Plan
Create annual development plan each fiscal year, with a minimum of quarterly written board updates
B. Communication Plan
Provide regular content and updates for website, newsletters, and social media on development activities
Chair/lead Development Council monthly meetings & agenda with the Board of Directors
C. Database Management & Reporting
Advise on tools that will best serve MCC.
Enter pledges and donations into development software and prepare acknowledgments maintaining all donor records.
D. Board Interaction
Monthly development board reports & budget/actual tracking
Attend monthly department meetings as required
This position while supervised by the Executive Artistic Director, has additional accountability to the MCC BOD and interacts closely with the board treasurer and accountant. Assist with other projects as assigned by the Executive Artistic Director or Board of Directors
Bachelor’s degree (Preferable: business, nonprofit management, or public administration)
Three or more years of development experience, including nonprofit grant writing experience.

A persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
Excellent written communication skills, with demonstrated experience in crafting successful grant proposals, letters of inquiry, reports and other funding communications
Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet programs and familiarity with database programs.
Strong organizational skills & meticulous attention to detail, ability to think strategically and implement tactically.
Ability to be flexible and take initiative, adapt to last-minute changes, contribute independently and as part of a team, manage multiple schedules and deadlines, and maintain confidentiality
Preferred Candidates for this position must demonstrate:
Experience serving as a representative of, and within, an organization, with the ability to build rapport with funders and internal stakeholders.
Experience in leading foundation and corporate cultivation activities, including stewardship, recognition, prospect research, gift administration and development policies and procedures.
?Ability to plan, coordinate and oversee fundraising events, including (but not limited to) silent auctions, concert fundraisers and gala events.
Excellent presentation and meeting management skills.
Work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people; ?Experience working with volunteers.
Knowledge of Milwaukee performing arts organizations, ?interest and/or experience in music, arts, or arts education a plus.
Valid driver’s license and good driving record as defined by MCC required.
This job involves certain physical tasks. Applicant must be able to access donor sites (corporate, foundation, government and other), and lift and carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Applicant must have a cell phone and a reliable means of transportation.
Up to 30% evening events outside of normal business hours. Ability to work one regular day per week until 8pm.
