Our purpose is to provide a safe and attractive physical campus environment for the University community that is conducive to learning, living and working. To accomplish this goal, we strive to provide excellent overall services in the areas of facilities maintenance, custodial services, grounds maintenance and overall safety. This position leads and instructs subordinate personnel performing various related activities and centrally organize a combination of the receiving and/or delivery of the goods, merchandise, equipment, furniture, paper products, refuse, recyclables, various common carrier deliveries, etc. of CWU.
Perform all aspects of truck driver duties to include but not limited to:
Waste Collector duties: - Collect waste from receptacles on campus malls and from buildings. Operate self-contained hydraulic packer truck in collection of campus garbage. Empty packer truck at transfer station. Wash truck daily - Operate tractor with a three-point lift to tow site dumpsters to the main compactor, empty and return. - Load and haul 30-yard compactor to transfer station. - Pick up and deliver hazardous materials, medical waste and universal waste. - Operate equipment to pick up all university recycle materials and surplus. - Clean and maintain compactor site and surrounding area.
Driver/Warehouse Worker duties: - Load, unload, move, and distribute materials, including flammable and/or hazardous materials, and equipment - Central stores pick-up and deliveries. - Delivery and collection of all other CWU materials and products in compliance with applicable statutes and regulations. - Oversee storage management; determine appropriate storage locations. Ensure all areas are organized, clean and safe. - Provide security procedures for merchandise and equipment.
Utility Worker duties: - Move, deliver and setting up office furniture, partitions, and cubicles. - Participate in the delivery and set-up of special events such as athletics, commencement, concerts, elections, and invited speakers. - Properly assemble and take down scaffolding for projects across campus. - Monitor on a regular basis the operation of the swimming pool. Perform water tests for equipment calibration, Back wash sand filters, change and clean in-line filter strainers and advise employees of proper procedures for pool maintenance. Maintain pool certification and keep current of pool regulations and procedures. - Operate service vehicles, tractors, dump truck, fork lift, lift trucks, compactor truck, in the performance of furniture moves, delivery of custodial equipment & supplies, university supplies, items received by Central Receiving, delivery of events materials, window washing, building locks & unlocks, pick up garbage and recycle materials. - Perform a variety duties including inventory classroom furniture, maintain flags on applicable poles, custodial equipment repair, wash windows with the use of extension pole, and maintain building entry ways. - Perform custodial duties in general housekeeping including, restroom cleaning, garbage & recycle, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping & damp mopping floors. Clean entrance carpets with truck mount extractor. - Remove snow and ice around buildings, entryways, sidewalks, curb cuts and ramps, waste collection sites; using equipment such as shovel, blowers, tractor with blade and sand truck - Attend departmental meetings, safety meetings and actively participate in training sessions. - Performs other related duties as requested.
Lead Duties - Lead and instruct subordinate personnel (driver-warehouse workers, waste collectors, utility workers, temporary and student personnel) performing various related activities and centrally organize a combination of the receiving and/or delivery of the goods, merchandise, stock items, equipment, furniture, paper products, refuse, recyclables, various common carrier deliveries, etc. of CWU. The major combination of functions include the economic efficiency of a single pick-up and delivery of diverse functions. - Assigns and checks work and provides training. May provide feedback to supervisor to assist with work assignments and job performance. - Assign and inspect work assignments for completion and ensure departmental standards and deadlines are met; report status to supervisor. - Assist supervisor in developing, maintaining and coordinating assigned personnel schedules and routine task schedules. - Assist supervisor in coordinating campus moving projects. - Work in collaboration with Space analyst to relocate occupants in buildings across campus. Communicate with occupants to minimize disruption and to assure efficient, safe and smooth moves. Communicate/work with electricians, telephone /computer personal to complete moves as needed. - Read, interpret, and process work orders as required. - Initiate applicable work orders for building repair and maintenance as needed and follow up on the timely completion of those work orders. - Maintain complete and accurate records such as inventories of furnishings, equipment and supplies as required. Monitor the use and care of equipment and supplies. - Instruct assigned personnel in the proper safety practices while maintaining compliance with applicable policies and procedures to provide a safe work place. - Lead team safety discussions. - Safely operate vehicles and equipment in restricted or congested areas. - Ensure compliance with applicable WAC, RCW, industry regulations and CWU policies.
Ability to perform the job duties of the position and meet the physical demands of the working conditions.
Two years' experience driving small, medium or large trucks.
Experience working productively while unsupervised for extended periods.
Experience producing work that meets both quantity and quality expectations while still meeting demanding deadlines.
Ability to work in highly sensitive areas and maintain security and confidentiality.
¿Experience using Word, Excel, e-mail, and/or similar software applications to produce written correspondence, create simple reports, receive and respond to e-mail inquiries, report time, etc.
Requires a valid Class B CDL with air brake endorsement.
Excellent communications skills. Follow written and/or verbal instructions.
OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: $3436/month with periodic increases up to $3985/month
Schedule/Appointment: Schedule variable according to need; Normally Monday - Friday, 5:00am-1:30pm / WFSE Bargaining Unit 1
Working Conditions: This position may work indoors and outdoors, at times in hot/cold/noisy/dirty/wet/confined areas such as mechanical rooms, manholes and excavations, and may need to physically access work areas with the equipment and tools necessary for completion of the job. This often requires standing/crawling/bending/walking/climbing while carrying/pulling/pushing/lifting associated with equipment or tools. Occasional overtime is required and shift work may be required. May need to drive a service vehicle in congested areas.
Scheduled hours and days off may vary depending on the needs of the department. May be required to work weekends, evenings and holidays. This position is subject to unplanned overtime including emergency call back situations. Occasional travel may be required. The incumbent will work indoors and outdoors, including working in inclement weather during daylight and dark hours. Employee will be exposed to hazards typical of waste and recyclables collection, including but not limited to debris, broken glass or other sharp, broken materials. This position is considered an essential position and availability will be required to respond to University emergencies.
