This position facilitates supplemental instruction through the Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) program, which offers strategic academic support for historically difficult courses. The PALs Tutoring Coordinator provides oversight of group tutoring programs and all supplemental instruction, supervises all PALs tutors, implements ongoing training that supports our program CRLA certification, and engages in program assessment and strategic planning. This position requires close collaboration with faculty, staff, advisors, and the University Math and Writing Centers.
- Recruit, train, and coordinate Peer Tutors for all supplemental instruction and group tutoring. - Develop curriculum that aligns with CRLA certification requirements. - Create content for and lead weekly professional development meetings. - Develop instructional materials and resources as needed. - Collaborate with administrative team to develop and update tutoring manuals, policies, and procedures. - Engage faculty in supporting ongoing mentoring of tutors and quality of tutoring related to the support of PALs programming. - Build the supplemental instruction program according to governing principles of Council for the Advancement of Students (CAS), National Association of Developmental Education (NADE), and National College Learning Center Association (NCLCA). - Work with academic units to develop supplemental instruction for high-need gateway online courses. - Teach UNIV 201. - Oversee tracking of attendance, ensuring that appropriate recordkeeping and data management is maintained. - Develop and provide reports to track quality, participation and results of courses supported by group tutoring. - Engage in research and evidence-based assessment for supplemental instruction programming. - Compile reports and metrics to inform decision making. - Engage PALs Leaders in assessment, program building, and marketing. - Schedule all PALs sessions and manage all daily operations related to supplemental instruction and group tutoring. - Monitor PALs engagement in courses and ensure quality programming. - Communicate regularly with students, faculty, and staff about services provided. - Create marketing strategies for supplemental instruction courses and engage in outreach. - Work with LSS Staff to ensure website has up-to-date information regarding all supplemental instruction offerings. - Work directly with advisors and faculty to support students in high-need classes.
Supervisor Duties - Actively engages in recruitment and hiring 25-30 new student employees. - Conduct PALs Leader observations and performance evaluations; provide ongoing and timely feedback to PALs Leaders about performance. - Ensures student employees have necessary resources. - Oversees and directs the work of student employees; serves as mentor, coach and leader, and resolves complaints or issues. - Promotes professional development opportunities. - Develops and fosters supportive working relationships, motivation and engagement. - Communicates information to student staff on an ongoing basis to influence staff engagement and to be a part of a larger community. - Takes corrective action in a timely manner. - Recognizes and rewards student employees for good performance. - Schedules student employee work hours/shifts; monitor hours worked; approves payable time and absence requests. - Adjusts leadership style as needed to achieve results. - Recognizes value of and promotes diverse workforce. - Values and encourages diverse perspectives, creativity and teamwork.

Master's Degree OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position
At least one year experience working in peer education programs
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
Working knowledge of MS Office programs
Experience conducting assessment and using data to inform decision making
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an indoor office setting with frequent in-person interactions. It is essential to be able to remain at a desk/computer work station for prolonged periods of time, perform extensive data entry and other computer-related tasks and create/maintain filing systems for departmental records. Some evening or weekend work and/or occasional travel may be required.
