We seek a Manager of Legislative Affairs to help advance LeadingAge’s public policy agenda on Capitol Hill. He or she will report to the Senior Vice President, Congressional Affairs, and work closely with other congressional affairs staff, our communications, grassroots, and policy development and analysis teams, as well as with other LeadingAge staff. The manager will:
Monitor and analyze legislation
Seek legislative opportunities to advance LeadingAge’s agenda
Build and strengthen relationships with key Member of Congress and Congressional staff
Assist with the development of strategy, tactics and messaging; and communicate LeadingAge’s policy positions to decision-makers
Identify potential partners and build relationships among not-for-profit and for-profit organizations
Develop a working knowledge of key policy issues, including long term services and supports, affordable senior housing, home and community-based services, Medicaid, Medicare and other issues important to older adults
Position requirements include a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years’ experience working on Capitol Hill or as an issues advocate, and a familiarity with aging services issues, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An advanced degree in law, public administration or a field-related area is desired.
Other requirements include demonstrated leadership skills; the ability to work both independently and collaboratively; to provide leadership and to be a contributing member of teams, and to build strong relationships. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, including the ability to translate complex policy issues into plain English and compelling messages. Commitment to serving LeadingAge membership and to working closely with state partners is also necessary. Must be able to travel overnight to meetings and conferences both locally and nationally.
