Provides supervisory direction for the department. Plans, organizes and oversees the day-to-day operations of the department. In addition, operates various ionizing radiation-producing equipment in the administration of treatments and promotes an atmosphere conducive to maximum physical comfort and psychological support for patients undergoing radiation therapy.
Interview, hire, orient, train, evaluate, schedule, and initiate appropriate promotion and/or disciplinary actions toward personnel supervised. Consult with and keep supervisor informed of activities, needs, and problems.
Plan staffing schedule and make assignments to ensure daily staffing patterns are consistent with workload to be accomplished.
Facilitate ongoing cost control through responsible management of human and physical resources. Ensure accurate charges are generated for department services.
Listen and respond to patient needs, treat patients and families with compassion, manage difficult or emotional patient situations. Investigate customer complaints quickly and work to resolve issues as quickly as possible.
In collaboration with the Radiation Oncologist, visit patients undergoing Radiation Therapy to plan the treatment process. Interpret and plan treatment with or without the aid of computer to obtain required results, simulate line of treatment, and seek the Radiation Oncologist acceptance of the treatment field and dose rate.
Operate the various types of equipment used in Radiation Therapy treatments in a safe, prescribed manner. Assure that the field, size, distance, blockage, dosage, time, filtration, and positioning are precise and that unaffected areas are protected. Manufacture field shading blocks as required. Maintain inventory of all required supplies and reorder supplies as necessary.
Initiate and maintain Radiation Therapy treatment charts and document treatments, dosage, and any reactions the patient may have. File and maintain treatment films and records to be used as reference for future Radiation Therapy treatments. Maintain daily and monthly logs and file with the Medical Records and Radiation Therapy Departments.
Ensure that standards and guidelines established by the Hospital, Nuclear Regulatory Commission and The Joint Commission are followed and documented in an accurate and timely manner. Ensure support and proper documentation for all quality assurance standards for the department and the Hospital CQI program.
Maintain equipment and supplies and notify engineer or supervisor of equipment malfunction. Ensure necessary support to continue normal operations is provided.
Develop, coordinate, and adhere to a plan for scheduled maintenance on all equipment as necessary to optimize function and minimize downtime.
Perform other related duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a Therapist (T).
Three years of radiation therapy experience
Current CPR (Heartsaver).
Supervisory experience preferred.
